COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Galt Knife Old Style is a variation of a beer style that was popular in the region in the late 1800's in breweries like Rock Springs from Preston and Western Steam in Strathroy. Malty body balanced with a generous amount of floral hops.

Growler
Appearance :Clear copper look with medium fine top.
Nose :Full of high alpha hops , citric with hint of sweet mango, slight earthy sides.
Flavour/Palate: Fairly light bodied . Malt base is totally covered with green, wet hops. Recommended to taste as last beer of session coz it will kill your palate.

500ml bottle. Pours a light copper with medium yellowish head, not the worst retention. Aroma is sweet and tangy, bready, coriander, and some hops in the backstage. Strong malty-bready taste, with a good amount of hops, a little uncoordinated with the aroma, but quite good, no sweetness. A decent Ontario brew.

This is getting a lot of raves, but for me it was just an average craft lager. A bit more hops than average, but for me the most important aspect of a lager is the crispy clean finish, and this one requires a bit of a dusting to rate higher.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2012 I love GRB, but I have found them to be an extremely inconsistent brewery. Each time I retry one of their beers, it seems quite different from the last time I tried it, and this one is no exception. 500mL bottle from brewery. This time around it had a grainy and slightly fruity taste, with the usual level of higher bitterness than found in most lagers. Quite good, but I feel like I’ve had better versions of it in the past. EDIT: tried again, months later, and sure enough, this time big caramel notes in the taste - loved it. Adjusting my score to be an average of the various times I’ve tried it.

2 finger head looks orange/amber ish. I can smell it without even trying to and bottle away from me but in glass I smell like hops and sometrhing else like warmth, smoke or something. Taste, well i would in a blind tste test not think its a lager but e.s.b. or i.p.a. or a combo its water and really malty in the body but that leavs fast and I get a long after taste of bitter and what taste like orange freom the floral hops used. Doesn’t seem like a lager AT ALL. cheer’s!

strong smell of honey and a taste that follows through with more of that. a taste of hops in here. a really decent lager - if lagers always tasted like this id drink a whole lot more of them, even when they werent cheap. half litre bottle

Sample at the Strange Brew Tasting on 02/18/2012. Dark copper-gold pour with a medium thin white head that burns away quickly. Spotty lacing. Aroma of mild hops and sweet malt. Light body with flavors of mildly bitter hops and biscuity malt. The finish is short and lightly hopped. Just average overall.

Bottle shared by a friend. Clear yellow pour with a thin white head. Aroma of malt, some hop and a weirdness I can’t put my finger on. Creamy and crackery malt flavor with a slightly bitter finish.

bottle. Pours amber with small head. Aroma is grassy, malty, herbal, some fruitiness. Taste is a little strange, sharp bitterness and caramel sweetness. Decent.

February 2, 2012. 4.4% abv, 500 mL bottle, BTL: Apr 13, 2011, BBD: none; cellared, pint glass Complex sweet aromas of grass, caramel, and burnt sugar. Pours a hazy amber similar to that of mulled apple cider. A light coloured height of about 1/2 cm which leaves good lacing. Strange complex taste. A noble hop bitterness which is very clean and light. Hop tastes of grass, hay, and bit of herbal; Some nice fruity flavours in there. Strong sweet caramel malts, with an overall taste of candied licorice, not too unlike twizzlers. Weird. Lingering bitterness in the throat. Light and slightly watery in the mouth. Refreshing amount of carbonation. Excellent lager properties. Kind of a weird taste. Better to drink this one a little faster than some. The sweetness becomes a bitter too powerful as it warms.

Modest head and a copper-gold body with little carbonation. Aroma of wet burlap, very faint. Flavour is a lot of bread and crackers, maltiness, wet finish. Old-style don’t necessarily mean good, and this tastes closer to a low-alc than anything else.
