On Cask at Volo , pint , Appearance: fine haze on amber , mid sized bright white cap. 3+ Aroma: spiced – ginger and clove on amber mats , sweet orange peel finishing. Flavor/Palate: smooth, mid bodied ale. Semi-oily soft malty base. Flowery hop with spiced up feel is floating on top. Slight bitterness with hint of warmth. Touch of caramel with grape skin. Festive for sure but I was hopping for more of rounding, filling alcohol to its formula.

Draught at Volo, circa Dec 2008. Deep golden-copper with a thin cap. Aroma of gingerbread, cinnamon, orange zest. Flavour is pleasantly spicy and mildly sweet, with a somewhat dry and slightly citric finish. Could use a bit more body to be a true winter warmer, but still nice stuff.

very interesting aroma on this one! The orange, cloves, are there, but the cinnamon dominates, and the other flavors i cant find them. The cinnamon is actually getting a but cloying, and i must say i didnt enjoyt his very much. My wife loved it though. But i never have been a very big fan of spiced ales. its a well made good beer, just not my thing.

Bottled. Poured hazy light-medium orange with a well-retained cap of white head. The aroma picked up a bright array of spices with cloves, juniper, mint, and orange zest coming to mind.. berries, honey, and pale malts supported.. quite intriguing. The flavor was spicy as well, picking up just a touch of jalapeno to warm it up.. cinnamon, cloves, and a touch of cranberry were present.. honey, a little molasses, and bread at the core.. warm, spicy finish. Medium-bodied with moderate-plus carbonation that moved it well across the palate.. long, memorable finish. This was excellent.

Aww this was fortunate - bottle at Bar Volo! Nice and cold on the bar patio, this has the bready spicy character not unlike the pumpkin ales we’ve been getting here. Creamy amber pour with a very fine tight light tan head. Aroma spicy and lightly yeasty. Taste spicy and fruity, as noted bready- like squash or even banana bread, Cardamom, a little taste of demerrera, not sticky or sugary tbut nicely sweet.. reat light overtone of hops that adds a note of lemon throughout and a tingle of hop bitterness that swells up a bit finishing multiple sips. Fantastic feel and balance perhaps owing to botttle-aging, Good work GR!!!

Bottle: Pours amber in colour, not much in the way of head. Sugary aroma, Christmas spices, citrus fruits. The flavour is like cinnamon toast in a bottle with cinnamon, sugar and bread, gently warming regardless of the standard ABV. Quite nice!

[1902-20081213] Bottle. Slight palmolive pumpkin spices in the aroma. Clear, medium orange body with quick white bubbles. Slightly sweet grainy allspice flavour with mild fruit notes. Medium body is a little watery. Interesting spices.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2010 From tasting notes dated Dec.30/09 Drank several bottles of this at Xmas and still have some cellared to try in the fall. Clear amber ale with a smallish cap, laces well though. Very aromatic without being overpowering...spicy,fruity lightly sweet, some grass. Matly-grainy start is balanced with spice which begins to dominate slightly near the finish which has a nice bite to it...possibly from pepper. Full bodied with a warming character. Nice Xmas seasonal, discrete enough on the spice that you could have a couple without nuking your palate with xmas spices.

500 mL bottle. Amber orange in colour. Strong aroma of cranberries, cloves, and spruce. The flavour is dominated by the cloves, but is all up-front, and fades quickly. A little thin, and doesn’t fill out as it warms. Grainy mouthfeel, and light carbonation. Not impressed by this one.

Bottle thanks to my friend John- A transparent rusty orange pour with a thin white head. Nose of orange peel, some apricot, cinnamon, candied malts, black pepper, some clove. Overall the aroma is really inviting. Tastes of sweet spicy goodness. Cinnamon, sweet citrus rind, some clove, candy caramel malts, a smidge of some spiced rum, and I detect the jelapenos towards the end. Medium body, full on flavour. Nice spicy finish. Another winner from a great brewer.

Cask at the Victory Café Winter Festival. After many pints of this this winter, I finally remember to rate it! Pours a nice clear orange with a spare diminishing white head. Very nice aroma, sweet with lots of spices and light hops. Malty flavour, again with lots of spices, some light hops and fruit. Average to medium bodied. Very good stuff, I love this beer!
