Fine taste of malt, subtle bittering. Medium bodied, very well balanced, a pleasing bitter aftertaste. Terrific! Thanks R. blankboy (3204), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours a clear amber-copper with a good size mostly-lasting off-white head. Mild aroma of caramel malt, grain, light roastness and some light yeasty sweetness. Flavour has a good amount of resiny hops, some lightly roasted malt and a nice bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Good stuff, very well done. oqhj (4), Canada does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 21, 2007 Rich red colour. Light airy head.Very strong hoppy bitterness. Bitter aftertaste. The hops are overpowering. Getting the huge 1.9 litre "growler" bottle is a huge commitment. With its bitterness and bottle-size, this is a beer of extremes. APPERANCE: This beer poured very well into my purchased Grand River Brewing glassware. Gorgeous cream coloured head lie afloat of the orange-copper brew, abundant with medium sized bubbles and good clarity. Lacing on the glass was impressive for about 10 minutes than dissipated.
AROMA: Mild fruitiness (very few esters), a little too clean. Medium malt aroma, slightly sweet with a hint of toastiness. Hop aroma is very plesent and floaral.
FLAVOUR / MOUTHFEEL: Body is thin, Medium to low mouthfeel and adequete carbination. Any maltiness is quickly dismissed as the harsh bitterness takes control (more aparent on the second mouthfull). Very green, raw hop bitterness lingers and lingers and lingers. No balance of malt to hop flavours. Hop flavour is very abundant and over-powering. Hard to detect any malt contributions. No complexity.
OVERALL PERSONAL COMMENT: Excited to try this beer and at first it looked promising. I like hops in my beer (a lot) but in regards to the style of beer and when everything comes together nicely. This beer is strictly for HOP HEADS who don’t mind if there is no flavour balance. Nice to try but no interest in further pours at this point. Nice malty aroma - rich, earthy, and fresh. Taste - wow, very bitter brown ale (despite the category, i thought it was a brown ale when sampled). This is what corporal punishment by Scotch Irish used to taste like (in my mind anyway). Neat chocolaty linger in finish. Some roast as well. A really solid ale and another great addition to the Ontario scene, well done guys!
