Belle couleur, bonne odeur, bonne amertume. Bouteille laide, mais originale surtout le nom. En fait, surprenant comme goût pour la teneur en alcool...

Bottle bought at Champanes, this ale poured a red, orange, peach color into the glass and had a little haze, the pour gave a nice faint off-white cover that was lasting and left nice spots of lacing on the glass, the nose had toasted malt, faint fruit that was pear like, a little citrus hops, malt sweetness with a hint of caramel, the flavors were similar to the aroma, the finish had a light hop bitterness, the mouth feel was light and creamy with average carbonation, this beer had a nice flavor and nose of toasted malt, light hops and malt sweetness, a nice drink.

Growler. Majestic copper body with a small white ring of head. The aroma is very grainy with burnt malts and cookie dough. A nice flavour profile with soft doughy malts, metallic pine bitterness and particularly in the finish where it appears to be quite brash and bitter.
Glad to see another brewery open up around these parts!

Growler at 2007 Golden Tap Awards, beerbistro. Pours a clear amber-copper with a good size mostly-lasting off-white head. Mild aroma of caramel malt, grain, light roastness and some light yeasty sweetness. Flavour has a good amount of resiny hops, some lightly roasted malt and a nice bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Good stuff, very well done.

UPDATED: JAN 26, 2013 Fresh bottle (1 week after bottling). Deep amber pour with a thin white head. The aroma is earthy and nutty with a little bit of light caramel. Very herbal/earthy hop aroma and a touch of light fruitiness. Warming brings up some earthy/spicy hop notes and a touch of soft caramel. Like a lot of their beers - when it’s fresh it’s quite good, but it doesn’t seem to have much of a shelf life. This is a whole lot better than I gave it credit for any of the other times I had it. Well-balanced and pretty decent. Bottle. Deep amber pour with a tight white head. The aroma is quite malty. Soft baked rye bread and a bit of soft chewiness. A little bit of light herbal/earthy bitterness. Fairly light-bodied but has a decent malt profile. Assertive bitterness but not a whole lot of hop aroma/flavour. I like the toasted malt character in here - it’s sort of like bock meets ESB. 7 3 6 3 13

I had this a few times because the first pint was so terrible, I couldn’t believe that people rated it this highly. The rating is for the second time I tried it. Tap at Volo. Earthy sweet malty base with a hint of butterscotch that I find somewhat unappealing. A fruity woody hoppiness as well. The flavour is substantially better however. Soft malty base with asome light licorice as well. As it warms the hoppiness in the nose give off a nice floral/herbal character. Further warming really brings this together. Noble/woody/floral hops over a soft earthy malt base. Lightly nutty flavour. Soft earthy malt base. Lightly nutty flavour with a soft lingering bitterness. The palate comes across quite watery though. It’s kind of a strange bag of stuff and I still don’t think it’s all that good. 7 3 5 2 11

Growler from brewery retail store. Pours a deep amber with a large off-white head that slowly dissipates for the most part leaving a relatively minimal head. Sweet aroma bursting with floral hoppiness. Lots of malt with a bitter finish.

In a growler straight from the brewery. Heavy amber color. Sweet aroma but a pleasant bitter finish.

Pours a rustic, burnt orange sorta colour with a short lived fizzy white head. The aroma is like a light roasty sorta smell at first, with some creamy sorta wurthers toffee notes, maybe some sherry?? The flavour has a very solid malt foundation for a sort of tangy hop house, if that makes any sense. No one thing really stands out to me, it’s all just very well rounded and balanced. A good session ale. Props grand river.
