The Pugnascious is designed to be a very simple ale. A combination of pale malt, crystal and 4 strikes of cascade hops in significant quantities - in true US pale ale tradition. Not rocket science but no beer is.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2011 500mL bottle from the Lickbow. Pours a nice gold with a large beige head. Loads of characteristic GRB malts on the nose with some very nice citrusy hop aspects around it. Flavour is great, like a combo of the Galt Knife malt body and Plowman’s hop profile. Biscuity GRB malts with an awesome prickly hop bite that lasts well into the finish and aftertaste. Mouth-feel is somewhat light. A very well done, simple and satisfying pale ale from an awesome brewery.

I tried this beer in August 27,2011 after purchasing from the Queen’s Quay LCBO outlet in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent amber colour with a long lasting light tan head. The aroma is fresh caramel, floral hops, and grass. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is caramel, with citrus and yeasty hints in the background.

bottle. Poured clear amber with a thin white head. NIce fresh citrusy herb aroma. Crisp mouthfeel, carbonation. Biscuity malt flavour, some tart grapefruit and grassy hop notes. Lingering bitterness.

This IPA poured a cloudy medium amber colour with a soapy, white head. To the nose there are scents of grass, citrus, earth and hay. First sip was slightly watery with flavours of grass/citrus hopps, hay and cereal. Finish is bitter with grassy hop flavour lingering.

Bottle purchased at the Dundurn LCBO. Pours copper copper colour with a white head. No lacing. Smells like candy, almost bubblegum really. Tastes quite sweet and a tiny bit bitter. Interesting brew.

Pours lumber brown with a nice one finger sticky cap. Aroma is punch in the mouth pale ale. I’m a little confused by the sour reviews below me. This a damn fine APA with deep veined malting & flowering hops in the finish. You could do a lot worse. If this were wrapped in a more urbane label the beer hipster indie rock crew would be all over this. Will grab more.

Rusty reddish hazy pour with a nice clingy white head. Draft at Gigs in London. Somewhat weak scent of citrus and fresh cut grass. Wet and refreshing. A bust of flavours at first that slowly mellows to almost nothing in the finish. It has just a touch of that pale ale bite right in the middle. Very subtle despite the name. Best beer I’ve had so far tonight.

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours light amber in colour, small head, but tonnes of lacing. Not much aroma (like all GR beers) and taste if somewhat bitter. Not an impressive APA. Missed the mark here (first time).

Pours near-clear copper-bronze, minimal head. Aroma is led by the grainy malts - almost a pilsner-esque character to it. Taste is similar with mild malt sweetness cut by pretty persuasive bitterness. Not too much hop aromas. A little fruityness at the end, with a little caramel.
