3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Lubiere (7001) - Ottawa, - SEP 9, 2011
A beautiful translucent orange amber ale with a thick moka head. In aroma, nice biscuitty malt with a tad of butterscotch, light hops, and faint veggie notes. In mouth, a good bready malt with nutty notes, good roastiness, a bit of coffee, lingering smooth bitterness, English hops, quite nice, medium bodied. Shared with probstk, Aug. 21, 2011. Thanks Karl.

500ml botle shared by MartinT.
Appearance : Clear amber with a small head.
Aroma : Malt ans resinous hops. Nice hop profile but a bit phenolic and buttery maybe. Nice fruits.
Taste : Nice malt with nice resinous hops. Finish is a bit thin with some malt and hops. Faint bitterness.
Overall : Not bad but the phenolic notes are bugging me a bit. It also seemed quite buttery according to Martin but I’m not really sensible to this so I only got faint buttery notes.

Bouteille de 500ml. Merci Patrick.

My Bottom Line :
Diacetyl-spiked biscuity, caramelized malts build a comfortable mouthfeel in which leafy hops and their balancing finish save this Pale Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A veil of foam decorates the pale amber glow.
-Diacetyl was not overwhelming, but certainly did not help the aroma.
-The soft, pillowy mouthfeel, with prickly bubbles and healthy residual sugars, was quite enjoyable.
-Citrusy hints come from the chosen hops.
-Honeyed flavors add depth to the malt profile.
-If it hadn’t been for diacetyl rearing its ugly head, this would have been quite nice.
-This was a month-old bottle, so I don’t see it being a freshness issue.
Bottle.

(Rating #3966)

Pours a hazy deep gold with a thin white cap. The aroma is citrusy, malty, candy orange, good. The flavour starts out with a harsh hop bitterness, but then quickly moves onto a light refreshing mingle of malt and hop, and then ends with some grapefruit bitterness. Finish is a bit soapy.
It does a few things bad, but it does most things well. Decent brew.

Bottle purchased at the Dundurn LCBO. Pours copper copper colour with a white head. No lacing. Smells like candy, almost bubblegum really. Tastes quite sweet and a tiny bit bitter. Interesting brew.

Hazy amber pour with a thick off-white head. The aroma is sweet and a little bit citrusy. Some orange peel and a touch of light crystal malt sweetness on the back. The crystal is there, but despite my initial reservations at the aroma, it’s actually quite dry on the palate. A little bit of bread/toast and some minerally bitterness in addition to the citrus. There is a touch of light astringency on the back, but it kind of lends a touch of body to a beer that wouldn’t necessarily have it on it’s own. I like it more than I expected to.
