3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle shared by a friend. Dark brown pour with a medium tan head. Smoky nose with dark fruit and lots of roast. Hammy smoke flavor with a bit of chocolate before a bitter roasty finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
A big taste. A surprisingly good beer from Grand River. Full body, although it doesn’t pour as thick as some imperial stouts. Strong taste of coffee and alcohol, heavy mouthful. The cost is good too - cheap for an imp stout. Underrated.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours very dark, with lingering bubbly tan head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, black licorice. Peaty almost? Rich, oily mouthfeel. Taste is chocolate, dark fruits, sweet opening, intense bitter finish. Alcohol is a touch more present than I’d like.

(500 mL bottle from LCBO). Served at cellar temperature. Pours jet black with a medium tan head that held for a little while. Aromas of mocha, caramel, licorice and some soya sauce, the latter not my favourite. Initial taste is chocolate with coffee and malty sweetness, mid-palate rather sour with some vanilla, finish dry, bitter and somewhat roasty. Mouthfeel is a little thin for my taste of this style but it is not over-carbonated. A decent example of the style from my home province, but I prefer something either hoppier or richer, with fewer sour/soya components.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
In short: A pretty basic imperial stout.
Pours black with big tan head that fades into nice lacing. Smell is coffee and chocolate. Taste is molasses, smoke and a bitter finish. Thick full bodied ale that sits heavy in the stomach. Decent but nothing special

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A bottle from the LCBO: 500mL, bottled on Dec 02. Dark brew, with a butterscotch head that slowly dissipates. Aroma of caramel, vanilla and leather. Taste is full-bodied, lots of malt, chocolate and a bit of coffee and caramel. The carbonation and alcohol do not get in the way. There’s some bitterness later on, a very pleasant amount. Unfortunately, there are some burnt notes as well. This is well balanced - a great beer for the long winter nights.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
500 ml bottle This guy pours black black black with a big tan head and really nice lacing. The head dissipates a little quickly but judging from other reviews, that might not always be the case. Some claim it never goes away. Aroma is bitter dark chocolate and some faint coffee. The flavour offers up nice bite of bitter chocolate off the top, followed by coffee, some sweet caramel perhaps, then a round bitter finish. Nothing too intense. Not quite as hop forward as some of its American brothers, but this is really good stuff.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Awesome great big beer. Big coffee up front and through the middle. Pours a pitch black with an initially huge foamy tan head. Big bitter on the tongue with a creamy feel in the mouth. Lovely stuff.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
bottle. Pours dark oily black, brown head. Aroma is roast, chocolate, dark coffee. Taste is a little sharp/burnt, intense. For local RIS, I prefer Welly, but this is still pretty good.
