Draft at Fobab 10. Not sure whey people feel the need to brew "big Berliner Weisse." It’s a waste. Pours a paler gold. Anyway, nose is super vegetal, light cabbage and lactic notes. On tasting, it is just a bit better. Moderate acidity, not over the top. Some lactic acid and a sweetness, lightly alcohol derived. The barrel throws vanilla into the mix as well. Kind of all over the place.

Sampled FOBAB ’12 - between the name and my affinity for berliners, I had to give this one a try. Pours a reddish gold with an intense and active white head. Aroma is sharp and biting - tart, yeasty, bread, hint of banana. Flavor is quite good - the dryness one would expect from a berliner is evident, but there is a good level of sweetness along with the tartness...a melange of flavors going on here...oakiness on the back end. A bit sharp up front on the palate, it mellows out nicely over time. Never had the base beer, but this one was pretty good - I’d order one if I ever run into it again!

Sampled at FoBAB 10 - 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer golden hue, healthy haze, with bubbly cakey whitish head atop. Laces ok. Aromas are a bit tart, lactic lemons, yogurt, and sourness. Gentle melon, tropical fruit, some bread, dough. Initial is mellow fruit, tropical and melon, richer citrus, some dry tart elements. Some oak, gentle bread. Tartness, mellow lactic acid, lemon, and oak. Gentle tannic qualities, mellow sweet bread, dough, straw. A bit underwhelming overall but has some decent sourness, nice oak character. An improvement over the regular Snarling though by a decent chunk.
