4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 iammatt (12) - California, USA - JUL 7, 2012Pours an awesome translucent deep garnet. A nice finger high tan head slowly shrinks to leave a small cap on the beer that leaves behind lacing all down the glass. Brown sugar, a bit of bread and tons of caramel hit the nose. Taste is rich malt, a lot of toffee flavors coming through. A good hit of coffee comes in towards the end, while being balanced out by some citrusy hops. This is a malt forward beer, balanced wonderfully by the fairly high IBU for the style. This stands out as an American Brown/Amber instead of an ESB.
This is a great beer that is extremely drinkable with it’s 6.5% ABV and 54 IBU. A great place for someone looking to start with craft beer, or a very pleasant American Amber/Brown.

12 oz bottle from Wilbur’s. Brown with ruby hues and a sticky tan head. Earthy piney hops with caramel malts and bread/toast make up the aroma. Medium body with a crispy dry feel. Heavy bitter piney hop flavor with light toasty malts. Pretty solid ESB, though I’ve only had a few

Caramel, cereal, nuts, resin, and spruce aromas in moderation greet the nose. The brown ale aspect of this is a nice twist, as it deepens the color and adds depth to the aroma. The taste is a little too subtle for me, but pretty easy to drink for 6.5% ABV. There is something earthy to this that I cannot pinpoint. An enjoyable and unique ale, try it if you have a chance.
