4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Bev Mo: Poured a pitch black color similar to the appearance of dirty used motor oil with a delicate topping of patchy foam for a head. My nose is delighted to find all sorts of characteristics that accompany the aroma of an imperial stout such as dark roasted malts, coffee/espresso, toffee/caramel, cream, and dark chocolate all of which make my mouth begin to salivate. The flavor is semi sweet and bitter and really allows for a bitter dark chocolate taste to dominate over the rest of the other flavors, but they are still received. These other notes of flavor I’m talking about range from a French vanilla cream, rich espresso, Arabic coffee, burnt black malts, and possibly hazelnut in the distant finish. Also, there is a presence of alcohol that gives some heat and at the same time thins out the drink to not be so heavy and dense.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a cap of creamy, chocolate head. Nose is like bread. Very yeasty and sweet with a nice bit of alcohol mixed in and hints of dark fruits like plum and cherry. Mouth is awesome. Very roasty and boozy with the yeast coming through again. A nice sweet undertone is present. Not the best imperial stout, but very good. I have another bottle aging.

4.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is what black tastes like. It feels a lot stronger than 8 percent which is quite good. An excellent imperial.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours near black with some tan fizz. The aroma is nice roasted barley with a touch of smoked malt and some dark fruits. The taste is rich malted roasted grains with an up front fruitiness, plums sweet red apples, black grapes, just a bit of sweetness. The carbonation is moderate and would probably be just right if the beer was aged a while. The smoked malt just slightly comes through along with the barrel flavors, they are more side notes to a barley and yeast driven beer, albeit very well done. Not your punch of whiskey and oak but a smooth well rounded stout landing right between big boozy imperial stout’s and fruity easy drinking mild stout’s.
