3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Theydon_Bois (2957) - The ’Sham, Surrey, - NOV 13, 2012Bottle on Amtrak Train 27 - The Empire Builder ( from Binny’s South Loop) - 05/11/12.
Pitch black, big coffee head which soon thins to a pond and edgeing.
Nose comprises roast malt, milk chocolate and a touch of soap.
Tastes of roast malts, chocolate, liqourice, molasses, dash of coffee and mineral tones.
Full bodied with soft carbonation and a roasted finish.
Drinkable but a bit of a let down if truth be told.

A: Pours thick black. Comes in a fun bottle with almost anime characters on it. Good head retention.
S: Chocolate and lots of it. A bit of acidity coming through. Alcohol.
T: Chocolate. Alcohol cuts through. Surprisingly light in flavor. A bit acidic. A nice earthy finish.
P: Thick but very intense on the palate.
This is a pretty nice beer but its odd. Nice chocolate up front but there are a lot of earthy hops in the finish. It’s weird. An interesting beer.

Pours thick, black with a nice brown head, some lacing. Nice smooth aroma of coffee, roasted malts, some chocolate, caramel. Beautiful thick mouthfeel. No alcohol flavor. Could have been a little sweeter for my taste, but it is nicely balanced.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 AZBennett (84) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - APR 21, 2013
Pitch black with a tan head that fades rather quickly. Aromas are light smoke, big chocolate and cocoa, nuanced licorice, vanilla, bread and roast. Flavors mimic the nose though the smoke/oak comes through a lot more as this warms. The chocolate is super tasty and rich while the licorice just adds spice. The mouthfeel is quite nice though this gets lighter in the body as the beer warms. Overall this is a decent effort, though there are other Imp. Stouts I enjoy more, I wouldn’t forgo this one.

First off, great beer. poured motor oil black with a thick, full head. Aroma and taste was toasted malt and the booze wasn’t overwhelming, which is sometimes a problem with imperial stouts. Palate was syrupy and coated my tongue. Perfect. Great standard imperial stout that should be used as a measuring stick
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 SDalkoholic (1769) - Chula Vista, California, USA - APR 20, 2013
Bottle from Bev Mo: Poured a pitch black color similar to the appearance of dirty used motor oil with a delicate topping of patchy foam for a head. My nose is delighted to find all sorts of characteristics that accompany the aroma of an imperial stout such as dark roasted malts, coffee/espresso, toffee/caramel, cream, and dark chocolate all of which make my mouth begin to salivate. The flavor is semi sweet and bitter and really allows for a bitter dark chocolate taste to dominate over the rest of the other flavors, but they are still received. These other notes of flavor I’m talking about range from a French vanilla cream, rich espresso, Arabic coffee, burnt black malts, and possibly hazelnut in the distant finish. Also, there is a presence of alcohol that gives some heat and at the same time thins out the drink to not be so heavy and dense.

22oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a cap of creamy, chocolate head. Nose is like bread. Very yeasty and sweet with a nice bit of alcohol mixed in and hints of dark fruits like plum and cherry. Mouth is awesome. Very roasty and boozy with the yeast coming through again. A nice sweet undertone is present. Not the best imperial stout, but very good. I have another bottle aging.
