COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This thick, rich ale was brewed with plenty of caramel and roasted malts, and subtly spiced with American Chinook and Willamette hops. It boasts flavors of chocolate and coffee, along with raisins and dried fruit soaked in sherry. We’ve accentuated the natural smokiness of the brew by adding a small amount of beechwood-smoked malt and aging the brew in an oak whiskey barrel, which also adds notes of oak and vanilla.

For not liking this type of beer and not an expert on knowing what I am tasting. I would say this is a pretty good beer if you like the dark Guinness type beer

Tap at Jernigan’s Grass Valley the other night. Nose had a nice blend of milked cocoa, hints of whiskey, and vanilla on it. Flavors are the same with hints of sweet roast, and a touch of the beechwood. For some reason this ended up being a bit sour in the not so awesome category. Not sure if this was that specific keg itself or this is how the brew tastes. Not my favorite for it’s style.

Robust heavy roasted malts, coffee, bitter sweet chocolate and baking cocoa. Lots of barley and hints of smoked hay and subtle presence of cigar smoke. Nice prickly carbonation but the body was on the thin side. Overall stellar RIS.

Sampled at Boise’s Imperial Stout get together, over 120 bottles to choose from. Going with the flow on this rating.

Teeny tiny taster at Standard Market. Still offers a great nose of dark roast malts, and a bit dryness from oak aging. Yet, this is not highly "roasty" or astringent. A bit of smoke and oak tannin, yes, but instead it just adds to the dry finish, and disguises the alcohol.

Fr0m the b0ttle: This had a dark br0wn b0dy, nearly black, with s0me mah0gany ar0und the edges. The slender c0c0a head rapidly reduced int0 a film. It had an ar0ma 0f lic0rice, a bit 0f dark ch0c0late, s0me c0ffee gr0unds, ash, and alc0h0l. It seemed a bit light 0n the flav0r side, but what was there was tasty, having the additi0n 0f raisins and dried plums. G00d, but f0r s0me reas0n, it didn’t excite me much.

Draft at Grand Targhee. Pours very dark brown with a frothy light brown head. Tastes sweet and strong, boozy with some coffee bitterness smooth and creamy. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like sweet syrup and bittersweet chocolate, with malty, roasted grains in the background.

This is some serious brew. Well designed bottle and label with charcoal gray foil. Pour into a snifter, midnight black with a thick khaki head that lasts and leaves lacing. Aroma of bourbon whiskey barrel, smoke, cherry, molasses, chocolate, and raisins. Very lively flavor that dances on the tongue, medium sweet and light bitter. Well balanced flavor, with coffee and vanilla accents. Palate is full bodied, thick texture, soft carbonation, long, complex finish. Would get again.

Dark black color with virtually none head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, burnt, dark chocolate, light vanilla, english licorice. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily / creamy, carbonation is soft to flat. Very nice and easy to drink
