Miver (443), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 4, 2008 1 liter bottle. Thanks to Hopdog for sharing. Poured dark black with a medium sized tan head. Aroma of strong roasted coffee and chocolate. Tastes of strong roasted coffee, with a bit of dark chocolate, licorice, and a little toffee. Very nice.
mtnbrwr (4), , Idaho, USA does not count Sep 27, 2008 Pours an opaque black with a fine, brown head. Smoke is apparent in the aroma, as well as dried fruit, and when swirled in the glass, a slight presence of piney, resinous American hops. The mouthfeel is right on, plenty of body without being too thick. The flavor is complex, with chocolate, roasted, fruity and smoky flavors all playing at once. The beer comes on sweet and smoky at first, then finishes with a nice dark malt bitterness in the end. Very nice. RollinHard (545), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Sep 25, 2008 Thanks to my girlfriend for picking up two of these bottles...and thanks to her mom for temporarily losing them in storage for 10 months! Anyway, they’re mine now! Pours black with a moderate light brown/dark tan head. Aroma of earthy coffee beans, toffee, caramel, graham crackers, espresso, and a bit of raisins. Tastes of dark chocolate, espresso, brownie mix, nuttier coffees, light raisin, finishes with a gentle nutty roast flavor with a slight vanilla and peanut butter flavor. Medium bodied, but definitely creamy and full-feeling without being too heavy. Don’t go in thinking the 7.5 abv is gonna be lacking! Very good, well rounded and smooth. A satisfying impy stout with a lot to offer and drinkability to suit the every day occasion. sloth (1540), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Sep 20, 2008 Small brown head, good retention and some spotty lace. Nose of light chocolate, malt balls, roast and some C hop action. Body is med/full with a gentle carbonation, lightly oily. Roasty flavors, light chocolate, caramelly, citrusy hops working together with the malt bill are not to my liking, just something about it i dont enjoy. Light notes of raisin and licorice too boot. Lightly sweet, hoppy finish. The Impy. Stouts are beginning to wear me down, dunno. Props to jake65 for the 1 Ltr. swing top bottle. eaglefan538 (2079), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Sep 20, 2008 Bottle shared by sloth at Statline. The pour was typical, dark deep black in color, big brown chocolate colored head on top, decent lacing all the way down. The aroma was milky chocolate, light roast, the typical. The flavor was strong milk chocolate, dry cocoa powder keeping it honest, some licorice, along with light grassy hops perhaps. The finish was a dry bitterness with an almost astringent (but not) character. A tad off, I suppose, but still not bad, just hard to alot that much to the liver without a bit more impressiveness in the flavor category, ya know? As usual, a very nice thank you out to Bert for sharing, fun times! doubleo (843), San Diego, California, USA Jul 19, 2008 Watch out for the wax on this one! 1l bottle thanks to Eric. Pours black with a moderate sized, creamy, light brown head, specks of lace. Smells smokey, slight malty dark fruity sweet. Tastes toasty and slightly smokey, malty fruity sweet as well. Big tasting beer. Full body, good carbonation.
