cmillward (170), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 20, 2008 Bottle @ ORL throwdown, courtesy of redlight. Pours pitch black with a thin tan head that fades away pretty fast. Roasty and chocolate and some nice caramel malts both in the aroma and the flavor. Nice bitter finish, some astringent roast evident in finish as well. Seemed a little thin, but smooth drinking. Nice.
doubleo (762), San Diego, California, USA Jul 19, 2008 Watch out for the wax on this one! 1l bottle thanks to Eric. Pours black with a moderate sized, creamy, light brown head, specks of lace. Smells smokey, slight malty dark fruity sweet. Tastes toasty and slightly smokey, malty fruity sweet as well. Big tasting beer. Full body, good carbonation. badbeer (409), Iowa, USA Jul 5, 2008 Black with a tan head and decent retention. Roasty aromas, as well as licorice, tar, and also a fair amount of earthy hops. Taste was roasty, with almonds, caramel, dark chocolate, and a touch of smoke. Body was medium and so was the carbonation. I’d drink this again if it were available to me. Thanks to pepsican for the sample. Miver (393), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 4, 2008 1 liter bottle. Thanks to Hopdog for sharing. Poured dark black with a medium sized tan head. Aroma of strong roasted coffee and chocolate. Tastes of strong roasted coffee, with a bit of dark chocolate, licorice, and a little toffee. Very nice. Angeloregon (1898), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 3, 2008 Thanks to Neil for the taste of this one--Poured a rich black-brown body with a thicky pillowy tan head. Nose of smoky dark fruits and candy as well as prominent chocolate notes. Gritty, chewy, rounded mouthfeel. A big, delicious, sweet yet hoppy chocolate toffee bomb of goodness. Dickinsonbeer (2514), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 2, 2008 Thanks to Hopdog for sharing. Pours a really deep dark black, with a thin lasting head. Aroma is a nice mix of both dark and milk chocolates, light anise, with some coffee/espresso . Flavor is somewhat seet, ltos of nutty dark chocolate, smokey cigar, coffee latte, and finishes on the hoppy and bitter side for an impy stout. As it warms it becomes a bit astringent in the finish.
