I know this has no business being anywhere but in me cellar, but I want to try it now. Pours a dark ruby color with a finger and a half of off white head. Leaves a lot of lacing. Smells like a boat load of hops, you get grapefruit and other citrus aromas, as well as some licorice and cherry raisins. Taste doesn’t seem like it fits well. A mild sweetness and very bitter, you can taste a lack of age. If you are thinking about drinking one, don’t until at least 2014.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 arrogantb (1398) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAR 9, 2013
750ml bottle. I keep telling myself not to buy these $12 beers but then my curiosity gets the best of me and I end up regretting it. This was a pretty average barleywine and as such it certainly wasn’t worth $12. Ruby color, good head, looks nice. Aroma is alcohol, hops, alcohol. Did I mention the alcohol is pervasive? Flavor is hoppy barleywine with a hint of cherry cough syrup, really nothing special. New Years Resolution: stop buying overpriced beers with no track record.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 portableparty (1598) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - FEB 15, 2013
2012 bottle to snifter. Pours calm and clear amber with a little tight off white head that dissipates to a wispy film and collar. Aroma has warming alcohol and hops that are piney spruce and earthy with a malt background. Taste is bitter piney hops somewhat resinous and warming alcohol along with malt and caramel and spice. Palate is medium slick and drying with a warming spicy finish. I dig this and see this getting better with an aged bottle!
