COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our intent for the annual Holiday Ale series is to release each year in November and December a special beer for enjoyment with special friends on a special occasion. This year’s version is an American-Style Barley Wine brewed with Southern Idaho 2-row pale malted barley combined with German and Belgian specialty malts to produce a mahogany to dark ruby red color, generous malt body and pleasing sweetness. The malt is balanced by about five pounds of bold American hops per barrel. Chinook and Galena, hops developed and grown in Idaho, along with Idaho-grown Bravos and Washington Simcoes give this strong ale a decidedly American flavor. Piney floral hops are evident when this beer is enjoyed fresh. Cellaring will enable those flavors to mellow, allowing the malt to shine with additional notes of raisin and fig. Barley Wine and Cave-Aged Gouda are a classic beer-cheese pairing. If a sweet dessert is what you crave, try pairing with a warmed pecan pie served al a mode.

Dark red. Light soapy head. Aroma of hops, pine, fruit which are all identifiable in the flavor. Smooth, not cloying. Slight dry finish. Complex interesting flavor. Really good beer.

Tried this at the winter beer tasting in Lawrence, 2012. Courtesy of Brandon and Monica. I opened this without realizing what style it was and was pleasantly surprised to find a mild, somewhat sweet barleywine. Avoids the syrupy texture of many in this style, hoppy, bold, with the flavor of dark fruits.

Cool pic. Barley wine laying down. Mine is a capped 750 from the BevMo in Vacaville. Pours hazy ruddy copper with a small off-white creamy/bubbly head. Aroma has a lot of pine/citrus. A lot. Full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Flavor is the standard brown sugar, but there’s a heck of a lot of hop fighting the sweet. This suggests "fresh hop barley wine". Those folks at GTB have finally gone off the deep end. Kudos. It’s finishing hoppy and bitter, while brown sugar constantly surges in and out. Amazing, brilliant ale.

On tap at World of Beer-Cherry Creek. Cloudy dark gold copperish with a thin off white head. The aroma is nicely sweet with a little nose of cherry and raisin, some sweet honeyed toffee, and a light booziness. Lovely flavor with sweet toffee, a little booziness, a touch of raisin and cherry, and a brown sugary sweetness. Pleasant and sweet and fruity.

On tap at Barley’s Brewhaus on 3/21/2013. Pours a deep reddish brown with 2 inches of head and excellent lacing. Aroma is pine and malts. Taste is sweet with dark fruit, pine, and a very noticeable alcohol flavor.

750 ml bottle, bottled on 10/18/12. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a dark reddish/copper color with about an inch light tan head that stayed around for a little while. There’s a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like toffee, dark fruit, sweet spices, and some light citrusy and pine hops. It tastes like toffee, brown sugar, figs, bready malt, citrusy (grapefruit) and pine hops. The bitterness comes out more as the beer warms. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it’s creamy and coating with moderate carbonation. I think it’s a solid beer, I liked it. Not sure if I should have drank this fresher or aged it longer!

Deep Amber brown. Smells a bit of leather and sweetness. It tastes of a sweetness that turns to a bitter leather taste that turns back to a mostly sweet finish. Fades nicely Malty undertones.

Enjoying this from Growler Station in Greenville, SC. Being able to get this "cellared" is nice because its very mellow for the profile. Very fruity, a little bready with the aging, but I think that helps mellow the ABV. Really good.

Bottle pours a deep amber with a lasting off white top. Scent is dark sugar and fruit. Taste is dark fruit, bread, sugar, caramel with some nice hops.

750 ml bottle purchased at the brewery. Pours a mostly clear deep coppery red with a moderate tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left partial lace. Pleasant aroma of caramel and figs. The flavor is deeper than the aroma with ample caramel, figs and resinous pine. Mild bitterness at the finish. Medium-full bodied. Well-rounded mouthfeel. Goes down dangerously easy @ 10% abv.
