Howling Wolf Weisse Bier is an unfiltered Bavarian-style Hefeweizen. Brewed with a hearty amount of wheat, this Weissbier pours a light clouded golden color with a generous head. Gently hopped to balance the malt sweetness, Howling Wolf’s flavors and aromas are subtle with a hint of fruit and spice. At 5% alcohol by volume, this light-bodied ale is a refreshing session beer for any time of year.

Wheat and carbonization is what hit me from the start and it finished the same. aroma was fruity and refreshing.

1" foamy white head... great retention and lacing.. the brew is hazed golden. Nose is very fresh of course... balanced nicely between the esters and the phenols... although both seem a tad light... banana and clove play nicely but are not quite as heavy as I would hope for... but that is my PNW mindset playing games. Not much to say about the flavor that I haven’t already said... the banana begins up front and the clove sorta finishes out.. the palate is better than the aroma by quite a bit in my mind... Medium/lite body seems spot on... carbonation is also about perfect.. Nothing is wrong with this beer... damn good actually. I forget how refreshing a well made hefeweizen can be.

Quite a reasonable weisse. Good yellow color, moderately hazy. Sweetness and fruitiness that cuts above the wheat base. Not distinctive, but solidly composed. Easy drinking.

Bottle, tried while visiting the Grand Tetons. Hazy gold pour with small white head. Nose is German yeast, banana, clove. Flavor follows, with medium body and light spiciness. Good beer for a warm afternoon in Wyoming.

Lighty buttery, slight banana and vanilla with a tang aroma. Cloudy orangy-yellow body, quickly disappaiting head.Taste is slightly sweet and yeasty, but with a watery finish. Okay hefeweizen.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a slightly hazy golden-orange color with a small head of bubbly white foam. The head fades super-fast, leaving almost no lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a yeasty smell along with other aromas of a more wheaty and bready smell. Mixed with these smells are some aromas of fruit and spice, with the fruit being a mix of orange, banana, and pear and the spice being of a clove and coriander nature. Taste – The taste begins as a blend of fruit and wheat with the fruit being of an orange and pear nature. There is also a decent showing of some yeast and spice from the start with these flavors getting stronger as the taste moves onto the end. The spice is heaviest of a coriander nature upfront with more and more clove and pepper joining later on. Other sweeter tastes of banana and a slightly candied sugar taste join the flavor profile later on, leaving one with a rather sweet, yeasty, fruity, and nicely spiced flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner side with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the fruity, sweet, and yeasty tastes of the brew the feel was rather nice making for a rather crisp and refreshing but flavorful brew overall. Overall –A rather nice easy drinking and slightly sweeter and yeastier hefe. Not a bad summer style brew.

bottle. deep golden with small head. no haze at all. there’s some light wheat, but i sure don’t detect anything i’d identify as a hefeweizen. well below average.

"if i don’t think of this as a pumpkin beer (listed first on the bottle) i can really dig it. this was the first of two unique beers i had tonight. color of a brown ale, body somewhere between brown and porter. very smooth, and supports the flavor well. starting colder, the lemon was front and center and at first could be mistaken for citrusy hops. at a cool temp, this beer was at it’s best, as the yams and herbal flavor and aroma really blended well with the lemon. warmer, the lemon fades, and the fenugreek takes center stage. interesting beer. misleading, though, as pumpkin is the one thing you don’t really taste or smell. too bad too, Elysian does pumpkin best."

[Tap] Hazy pour is light yellow in color. About an inch of foam on top. Highly carbonated. Aromas of yeast, wheat malt, mild banana esters and light grass. Taste is pretty similar, with banana and wheat malts coming out the most. Mild citrus finish. Not getting much clove like one would expect. Lighter in body. A fine beer, but definitely lighter in body and less flavorful than than the better examples of the style.
