COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Howling Wolf Weisse Bier is an unfiltered Bavarian-style Hefeweizen. Brewed with a hearty amount of wheat, this Weissbier pours a light clouded golden color with a generous head. Gently hopped to balance the malt sweetness, Howling Wolf’s flavors and aromas are subtle with a hint of fruit and spice. At 5% alcohol by volume, this light-bodied ale is a refreshing session beer for any time of year.

12 oz bottle purchased as a single at MDL in Overland Park, Kansas. Bottled on 10/28/11 according to the label. Pour is slight haze golden yellow with a one inch white head that falls quick. Aroma is banana, bubblegum, wheat, and grassy earthiness. Taste is big on the bubble gum banana sweetness up front, turning towards clove, then finishing with the wheat and a nice mineral. Palate is medium bodied, unfiltered mouth feel, lower carbonation, and the lingering yeast and mineral finish. Clean, fresh easy drinking beer.

Pour is a hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is a nice clove and yeast. Flavor is a nice clove, a touch of spice and a hint of vanilla. This is a pretty decent offering and very sessionable.

Pours a cloudy yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is strong with wheat and a slight hint of lemony tartness. Not much spice. The flavor is a little more spicy with some bubblegum sweetness and lemon. It has a very wheaty finish with another light hit of yeast. Not bad, but a little too sweet and not enough clove.

Bottle. Yeasty wheat, citrus, bubblegum, clove. Hazy golden with a minimal white ring. Wheat malt, bubblegum, orange, clove flavor. Light carbonated body. I’m by no means an expert, but this struck me as a weird hefeweizen.

Picked up a couple of these tonight at the COOP... shared one with inflatablechair.... We both thought this is a pretty damn respectable and very fresh tasting hefe. Why this is named "Howling Wolf" when the Cellar Reserve Weizenbock already had the moniker first is very confusing. I bet it will only be a few weeks before we start seeing reviews under the Weizenbock that actually should be in the hefe category... oh well... I don’t care... this is a classy brew. 1" foamy white head... great retention and lacing.. the brew is hazed golden. Nose is very fresh of course... balanced nicely between the esters and the phenols... although both seem a tad light... banana and clove play nicely but are not quite as heavy as I would hope for... but that is my PNW mindset playing games. Not much to say about the flavor that I haven’t already said... the banana begins up front and the clove sorta finishes out.. the palate is better than the aroma by quite a bit in my mind... Medium/lite body seems spot on... carbonation is also about perfect.. Nothing is wrong with this beer... damn good actually. I forget how refreshing a well made hefeweizen can be.. I will definitely be picking these up while I can.

Bottle 6/21/12 - Pouirs a pale straw color with a light haze and lots of bubbles. Thin white head is short lived. Staunch aroma of corn, grass, and malts. Tastes slightly sweeter than the aroma would suggest, followed by a crisp grassy and herbal hop finish. Uninteresting.
