3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap @ The Bistro’s 2010 10th Annual Double IPA Festival. A golden color. This one has a barley wine like flavor with dark fruits, raisins and sweet malty flavors.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Smoother than I expected. Definitely has a hoppy aroma and taste - pine and citrus - copper color - expected it to be a little stronger but still good

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Review from notes on 07/17/10
A2: Bottled 5/23/11,reviewed 27JUL11
A: No head, appears flat, which I didn’t expect given the freshness of this beer. Beer is dull in clarity, slightly misty. Lacing evident on wall as glass is emptied, but nonetheless, unimpressive. (2)
A2: Pours a copper ale with a single finger of peanut head which falls to a tortuous sheet of the same. Cobweb lacing. Limited Clarity. (3.5)
S: Lots of PNW hopping here! Citrus, pine, sheetgrass, grapefruit frosts the crystal malts over this beer. (4)
S2: Pine, mint, grapefruit, juicy fruit; all make the hops. The malts are sweet and floury. (4)
T: Well balanced, bitterness matches level of sweetness in this beer. The finish encourages tongue to dispute whether you taste bitterness or sweetness, nice balance. (3.5)
T2: The hop profile here is flavor dominant, very sweet and floral. There is a definite bitterness, but it seems subdued by the malts and hop profile. Plenty of biscuit and hints of toffee on the malt side of things. The hops seems just a little ill-defined. (3)
M: Sharp feel on tongue, the bitter teases the tongue to dryness only to be again weaned toward the sweetness of the late hops. (4.5)
M2: Medium bodied with higher carb than preferred for the style. Dry. (3.5)
D: Good DIPA. Worth at least one try. Well balanced, which I don’t think DIPA’s usually are. (3)
O2: I’m less impressed with this than I was a year ago. A little too sweet for the style. I find their imperial red more hoppy than this. (3)

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Guest tap at Crooked Fence. Foamy active pour settles into nice golden hue with creamy head. Plenty of IBUs to go around, but not enough to make you pucker. Relatively smooth for a double, easy to drink and enjoyable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours hazy golden orange with thin white head. Pine, citrus, some malt sweetness up the snout. Taste was a little underwhelming for me after the big nose. Orange rind, some spice. Nice bitterness on the back end leads to dry finish. Pretty solid beer but expected bigger.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma is fruit/syrup, light citrus and a hint of pine/grass. The flavor is citrus, fruit, slight syrup notes and a low and lingering bitterness in the finish.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a hazy peach-copper color. Aroma is incredibly fruity with wonderful full notes of orange and lemon. Flavor isn’t as overwhelming as I expected given the full aromas. Still very powerful with great orange notes. Fantastic IIPA that doesn’t overwhelm.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy amber color, decent sized head, good lacing and retention. Aroma reminds me of Sculpin IPA - grapefruit, citrus, pine, some tropical fruit, light caramel malt backing. Medium bodied, moderate bitterness, enjoyable.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz. bottle, sent from Neillago (thanks a lot, Neil), pours an opaque, cloudy orange with a small off-white head and noticeable sediment. Aroma brings out big notes of resinous hops, a big chunk of caramel malt, a little grapefruit and some residual sugars. Flavour brings out lychee fruits upfront (yes, surprisingly, I get this), some grapefruit notes, caramel malt, medium strength resinous hops, and candy from the residual sugars. Way too sweet for me - sickly sweet in fact. The malt clobbers the hops, making this almost a cross between an IPA and barley wine. Not very well put together. Just drinkable, but highly flawed.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A pronounced bitterness is tempered by a certain amount of malt sweetness. Complexity and grapefruit zest flavor are appealing. The finish is extended with more contribution from bitterness. At 4+ months, hops may be fading a bit. I wouldn’t be surprised to find a fresher bottle even more impressive.
