3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours with a thin white, quickly dissipating head. Aroma is bready with light citrus notes. Color is a hazy copper. Flavor is malty, orange with slight Brett funk. Finish displays nice acidity and tartness with a lingering bready and Belgian yeast flavor.

Not an oud bruin. Smells very sweet -- malty, worty. Caramel, red apple, pear, bake bread. Got the malt side right; needs some acidity. Super-sugary flavor. Bread, caramel, toffee, apple cider, a bit of bretty funk. Zero Flanders acidity, and if this is actually 6 percent alcohol, I’ll eat my own shoes. Tastes more like a quad than anything, and not like a very good one.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
My Bottom Line:
Lactic connotations and vegetal undertones wade within this storyless Oud Bruin.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the dull, misty pale red.
-A touch of butyric acid (spoiled milk) is found in the nose.
-Mouthfeel is a tad fluffy, which doesn’t work with the style (for me).
-Acidity levels are low for the style.
-After 4 different brews, this brewery just doesn’t do it for me.
Bottle; 2013 vintage.

What a letdown this one. GT has always been solid, if not spectacular, and this, as a sour, is just crap. Smells and tastes of barn, yes...but in that dusty old smell. Very little tartness or sour (or really a whole lot of anything going on) in the aroma and flavor. Too gassy. More like a straight belgian, and a somewhat boring one at that. One timer for sure, not worth half what they charge. Stick to what you know guys, and sour ales ain’t it."

More like watered down barely wine. Too much of the malt interfere with flemish yeast character

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma is fruity with apples, grapes and prune with a strong caramel sweetness under the fruity flavors. The beer has a rich caramel color and a modest tan head with some light cloudiness. Flavor is sweet with a strong raisin presence, light toasted malt which is well balanced with the sweetness. Body is modest with low carbonation. Overall a pretty good brew with a lot of sweetness present.

750 ml bottle- Pours an extremely hazy orange with minimal head that reduces to a collar. Aroma is extremely malty similar to a barleywine actually. The taste is similar, age has not been kind to this beer, malts similar to a barleywine. The vintage is 2013, PDT is 01/13, about 15 months, a true sour should stand up to much more than this ( possibly the retailer stored it improperly, huge windows shining sunlight right on the bottles?). From what I’ve read its the beer, WTF, extremely malty, not a sour at all!

1L swing top? bottle. Thanks to maniac! March 2014 DC Tasting. Poured a ruby clear color without a real head to speak of. Aroma was malty, sweet notes. Malt finish, some nutty notes. Age has oxidized this a bit (bottle was first opened in Sept), the sour/acid is missing, but was still enjoyable enough.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours a reddish brown with almost no life at all. Aroma is very thin malty sweet with vague lactic sourness. Flavor is about the same but with a mild rancid butter and bitter finish. Feel is thin and a bit silty with very light carbonation. Shame. I was in the mood for an oud bruin.
