COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pursuit of Hoppiness was brewed to showcase the brash beauty of American hops: Summit, Simcoe, Chinook and Nuggets at 100 International Bitterness Units (IBU). It was brewed with Idaho 2-Row malted barley and German specialty malts to provide a rich, slightly caramel flavor and bold reddish color. At 22 degrees Plato starting gravity and about 8% alcohol by volume, this is a perfect autumn beer, thick and warming, to be shared and savored on a crisp fall evening.

Lightly hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, citrus fruits, caramel malts, and light papery oxidation. Taste of citrus, caramel malts, toffee, a bit nutty, some pine, tobacco, and grapefruit hops.

Grand Teton Brewing Pursuit of Hoppiness Happy birthday little sis. This ones for you. Pours amber with a medium head that remains on the beer while you drink the rest of it. Slight lacing on the glass, Looks nice. Sweet smell of caramel and hops, but not overpowering. Well balanced aroma. Taste is hoppy, but not overblown, bittersweet with a slightly sour finish. This beer is very drinkable and the alcohol is well hidden. Good but not great.

Tap at GABF 09. Pours a medium bright amber with a medium off white head. Aroma is grassy, herbal, a bit of mango but seemed a bit dull and lightly oxidized- papery and cracker. Flavor is a bit better with some more citrus hops some earth, herbs and grassiness, light fruity hops, hint of garlic and light dankness from some weird hops- bitterness seemed pretty raw and tacky in the end. Ok.

Sharedwith Bellport Dave! Nice, deep copper color. The smell of hops is readily noticed. More pine than citrus. Heavy malt balances nicely. Sweetish finish followed with a little bitter and dry (but nice)aftertaste.

Pours copper with a nice beige head and a floral toffee aroma. The flavor is thick caramel malt with lots of hop bitterness. A great hophead brew.

(1L bottle) red/amber with off white head. Piine/floral/citrus hops aroma. Flavor is complicated mixed hops flavors: grassy/pine/citrus/floral with solid caramel malt backbone.

Good hoppy amber. While there is some specialty malt flavor, this beer is really a showcase for hops. There are big, bold American hop flavors, mostly citric and a bit floral. It’s not a particularly complex beer, but it’s an enjoyable exercise in hoppy imperial amber land. What’s appreciable from the malt comes across as a fairly simple spicy caramel note. It’s a rather chewy beer with a good, thick mouthfeel. I wish that the Simcoe hops were allowed to shine more, but maybe some folks feel differently. My main criticism is that the beer gets a bit astringent, but whether that is a failing of hops, malt or some combination is beyond me. Overall, it’s a nice hoppy beer but not the best imperial red by a good distance.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2012 A nice medium hop aroma. Looks good. The flavor is that of a nice beer, with some significant hops and malts battling. Quite a bit of fruitiness at the end. Nice. RE-rate went up a few.

Bottled on 9/17/09. A fair amount of sweetness, with not all that much hop bitterness (if you were considering it an iipa). But with the resiny, piney charcter of the hops it works pretty well. Some musty, probably just b/c it’s a few months old.
