COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pursuit of Hoppiness was brewed to showcase the brash beauty of American hops: Summit, Simcoe, Chinook and Nuggets at 100 International Bitterness Units (IBU). It was brewed with Idaho 2-Row malted barley and German specialty malts to provide a rich, slightly caramel flavor and bold reddish color. At 22 degrees Plato starting gravity and about 8% alcohol by volume, this is a perfect autumn beer, thick and warming, to be shared and savored on a crisp fall evening.

on tap at papago 3/4/10. dark hazy copper tinted reddish-brown with a lasting tan head and loads of drippy lacing. nice aroma of mellow resinous pine, grapefruit/citrus candy, caramel, browned sugar and spicy earthy hops. the flavor is dirty and full of dirty hoppy dryness... spiciness, citrus, caramel, grass, pine and a lightly bitter finish make up the rest. it is a touch too sweet for what i’d ideally like but, man are there a bunch of fresh delicious hops in here. the creamy medium-full body is softly carbonated yet kept crisp. 7/4/7/3/16/3.7

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. The beer pours orangish-brown with a white head. The aroma is lots of caramel malt with some nice hop character. The flavor is a great mix of caramel malt and piney hops. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. This is only my second beer from these guys, but I have been very impressed with the two I have tried.

Bottle from Bevmo. Clear copper red with a fizzy white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, and citrus hops. Similar taste but the hops are more muted. Decent.

Tap. Clear red-orange pour. Nose of caramel and bread, with mild citrus. Taste is similar - very nice brew and reminds me of a DIPA.

(Rating #2939)

From a bottle at a tasting.
Appearance : Hazy amber with a small head.
Aroma : Resinous hops, sweet caramel. Hops are also a bit leafy.
Taste : Malty, some hops. Finish hoppy and a bit bitter.
Overall : Nothing really special there. Not bad but very ordinary.

My Bottom Line:
Simple caramel malt flavors and rising oxidation are strangely important before resinous hop bitterness concludes this rather lax American Strong Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the dull brownish amber.
-The flavor profile was balanced throughout.
-Aroma hops were severely lacking for the style. Dextrins almost took over.
-The low carbonation and portly residual sugars made for a more Barley Wine-like sipping experience.
-With a name like Pursuit of Hoppiness, one has the right to expect something much more aromatic and hop-driven in the flavor department. Can you blame everything on swing-top bottles?

Bottle.

Hoppy but tastes like it’s been whiskey-barrel aged. Dark red in color, tastes strong but not unbalanced.
