Pursuit of Hoppiness was brewed to showcase the brash beauty of American hops: Summit, Simcoe, Chinook and Nuggets at 100 International Bitterness Units (IBU). It was brewed with Idaho 2-Row malted barley and German specialty malts to provide a rich, slightly caramel flavor and bold reddish color. At 22 degrees Plato starting gravity and about 8% alcohol by volume, this is a perfect autumn beer, thick and warming, to be shared and savored on a crisp fall evening.

Aroma is fabulous. The description on the label perfectly. Beautiful looking beer with billowy head and lace. rich redness comes through. Ever so slight smokiness in the flavor with caramel and hops. Toasty, malty and grainy which is really satisfying. Bitter dry aftertaste. Bitter grain woody finish. Really really good.

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2009 33.8 oz. bottle- pours reddish with a 1.5 inch head, good lacing. Tastes obviously of hops, but what I was impressed with was the spicy finish this beer imparts after the swallow. I loved this beer, I think this is the highest beer I’ve rated so far, ermöglicht ein prost.

Strong nose, a bit sharp but I guess that’s wha happens at 100ibu’s. beautiful red with rocky head that lasts. taste is hop forward but then amazingly smooth and sweet on the finish palate is smooth overall a very good offering nicely blending the strong hops with a smooth red

On tap @ Vine Street Brewpub 3/30/11. This brew rocked my socks. I had no idea the IBU was that big, but it’s the tamest and most approachable 100 IBU I ever did see. Reddish orange with a big creamy ivory head that lasted throughout the whole serving. Aroma of a big hoppy dream--light pine, heavy flowery and grapefruity hops, some light caramel sweetness throughout. Taste was a big hop bomb, but it was so balanced and mellow that it was exquisite and perplexing and magnificent to a stout lover like me. Biscuity and caramel malts provided the backbone to a controlled bitter grapefruit citrus, almost floral grassy hop assault. Very big yet even and balanced. A fantastic brew, would love to have it again!

Pours a deep deep orange and leaves excellent lacing down the glass. Smells of citrus/tropical fruits with some heavy caramel malt backing it up. Taste follows the nose. Heavy caramel notes throughout. Citrus, tropical fruits and some pineapple really cut through all this malt leaving a resiny lingering finish. Mouthfeel and carb are average for this style. One of the better Imperial Ambers I’ve ever had. It reminded me a lot of Nugget Nectar. It’s got a lot of caramel malt, but the hops are definitely high enough to make their presence known. Fantastic beer.

Tangerine and dried leaves bouquet. Clear copper, medium yellow head, nice lace. Honey, tangerine, grapefruit, maraschino cherries, good intensity, dank. Medium body, oily, smooth soft carbonation. Nice intensity, complexity, and balance. Everything comes together really well, with a juicy hop bill that is neither too sharp nor dull. Excellent texture. I would drink this often if I lived in Idaho.

What a splendid drinking experience! A Simcoe symphony greeted my sinuses upon opening of the bottle, and the mildly cloudy and golden appearance were a prelude to a wonderful ten minutes of hop seduction... nicely organized head too. A sweet and caramel taste balanced nicely with the heavy hops, and I sensed a slightly earthy element on the back end. Worth every penny and I’ll be back for more....A+.

On tap at Winter Park Beer Fest ’11. Terrifically aromatic hops on a big full bodied amber beer. Mouthfilling and carries the body alcohol well. Very balanced and well rounded. Some dried dark fruit notes on a long finish.

Delightfully bitter, rich and crisp. This beer is my new favorite red, and could be fast becoming my second favorite ID brewery.
