(Bottle) Pours beautiful deep red with a sand-colored head. The aroma holds strawberry jam, grapefruit, lemon, resin and caramel toasted malt up front with undertones of vanilla, wood, herbs, grass, light pineapple candy, tart mango and honey. Hints of caramelized nuts and buttery cookies. The flavour is light sweet, medium bitter and light acidic with notes of citrus, light fruits, flowers, resin, wood, spices, toast and light caramel. Whisper of canned fruits. The mouthfeel is clean and light round with a light to medium carbonation. Resinous and toasted finish. Medium bodied.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Marsiblursi. Pours hazy dark ruby red with a rather small creamy yellowish beige head that leaves some thick lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, malty and hoppy with caramel, pine, orange zest, lemon zest, toffee, resinous wood, alcohol, vanilla and hints of strawberry jam, hay and wild strawberries. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty with caramel, dark bread, wild strawberries, pine, orange peal, freshly cut grass, wood and hints of grapes and alcohol. Mouthfeel is smooth, tiny oily bitter and medium bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and bitter with bread, pine, orange peal, grass and hints of burnt caramel.

Deep red pour with an off white head. Light citrus hop nose with sweet malts peeking through. Med body with bright citrus hops, sweet caramel malts and apples. Sweet finish with a tame bitter finish that leaves you wondering about the name.

Totally missed the bottle date when I picked this one up. 9/11 so it was just a bit past its prime. No real hops left in it and we were left with a sweet, malty mess. Not my deal, but again I have no idea what this one would be fresh.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20 madvike (1479) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - APR 20, 2012
Bottle (bottle date 9/21/11!) shared by MrPickles..thanks Andy! Pours reddish amber with a nice foamy tan head. Nose isn’t crazy hoppy--mostly some muted pine and grass hops--but that’s to be expected with a 7 month old beer. Real sweet--pretty sugary, with brown sugar honey. There’s a snap in there too that I can’t tell if it’s alcohol or hops. Taste is pretty flat. Watery dark bread malt, a bit of butterscotch sweetness, and some sharp grass/pine hops. Real smooth in the mouth--fluffy carbonation. Taste is all over the place--this beer’s a mess.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Marheb (674) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 6, 2012

Tap at Downtown JB’s, SD. It pours clear copper, with a thin white head. The nose is pine, resin, leaf, raw hop, earth, orange, grapefruit and nectarine. The taste is pine, resin, leaf, big bitterness, caramel, earth, citrus pith, grapefruit and alcohol warmth, with a big bitter-dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not particularly complex. A solid hoppy amber ale.
2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 Vir4030 (391) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 3, 2012
Pours a dark amber with a thick head out of a bomber. Roasted aroma. Flavor is hoppy but also has a dark flavor. It’s pretty okay. Nothing I would buy again, though.

Aroma is primarily nuts, bread, dough and sweet malts. Appearance is dark brown/amber color with an almost non-existant foam top. Tastes of nutty malt upfront with a slight leafy hop background. Sticky, malty taste on the finish accompanied by a subtile alcohol presence. Overall, a pleasant beer with a strong malt taste. Much more malt than hops, I was expecting a lot more hops. I’d give this a B rating.
