3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 ryecatcher (349) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 27, 2012
Bottle. Pours a hazy deep orange with a thin white head, some retention and a little lacing. Nose is dried apricots (one of the most distinctive noses I’ve come across). Mouth is less impressive than nose, mainly caramelly malt and some earthy notes, less hoppy than I’d hoped for. Finishes very quickly. Okay, but after the nose, somewhat of a letdown.

I noticed that this beer won the Gold at GABf for American Pale Ale and when I noticed the bottled date was only a month old I didn’t hesitate to pay the $8 for the sixer. Orange-yellow color with a good rocky head. Smells hoppy, a little bit of grass and "greenness". Taste is a solid hoppy pale ale that almost borders on IPA but not quite there. I’d easily buy this again given the value for the price.

Dry hopped with Bravo. 12oz bottle. A pretty rough bitterness for the IBU’s, which is just fine in a beer like this. The main reason for my rating is to have notes on the Bravo hops it is dryhopped with. I get a pretty even mix of candied citrus rind and chlorophyll in the aroma. Acceptable, but it is not a favorite. Seems to lack the garlic/onion of some high alpha hops, so it is possible that using a larger dryhop charge would bring out more of the citrus character. Nice malt base on the beer, nice balance. Overall a decent pale ale, although certainly a big one.

Big thanks to ny pal Shawn who in thanking me for being wedding party signed me up for micro brew of the month club. My first brew from the box is this fine pale ale from Idaho. Pours cloudy orange with quickly dissipating white head. Nose of citrus and dough. Tastes of grapefruits, grassy, spruce, bread, caramel, and light ginger. Light bodied but nice finish.

This Pale Ale poured a medium amber colour with a awesome, off white, frothy/creamy head. To the nose there are scents of spruce/citrus/grassy hops, light malt and dough. First sip was full of hop flavours such as spruce and citrus/pineapple. Finish is bitter and chock full of hop.
