COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison is the original summer beer. Originally brewed in southern Belgium for thirsty farm hands, these crisp, bubbly, and refreshing brews demand to be consumed on hot summer days. Our Saison follows centuries of tradition, using European hop varieties—Hallertauer Magnum, Styrian Goldings, and Strisselspalt. We also use a very light base malt accented by just a touch of Wheat and Munich malts. Finally, we ferment the beer very warm with a well-known Belgian yeast strain to bring out the spicy flavors that are common to Saisons. This style pairs well with an astonishing variety of foods. Drink it with grilled sausage or chicken, green curry with coconut milk, or a summer salad with vinaigrette and crumbled bleu cheese.

The Grand Saison is a beer to commemorate warm weather. As its flavors will diminish with time, this is not a beer to be cellared. We recommend you savor it during the long summer days while it is fresh.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2012 From the 12/2011 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a murky yellow-golden color with a medium sized white head that left no lacing. The aroma was bready with notes of rye and pepper. The flavor was very yeasty and bready with a spicy and peppery presence and moderate notes of orange, lemon and honey. The beer turned tart and dry towards the long bready and citric finish. Fairly full bodied. Nice.

750 ml bottle from Randall’s. Pours a hazy but bright straw gold with a rocky white head that laces the glass. Aroma of farmhouse funk, sweet bread, straw, cereal, apricot, and grass. Flavor of tangerine, apricot, crackers, sweet bread, straw, and light herbs and spices. Medium body with moderate carbonation and a funky, sweet, fruity mouthfeel. Very nice.

Rich gold, transparent white head, leaves heavy lacing. Lemon, bit wheaty, peppery nose. Flavor similar, a bit more green, rooty, light lemon and wheaty in addition to caustic soap. Carbonation should be dialed down a bit though the finish is nice and lasting.

Bottle: pours a hazy lemon gold with thick, creamy offwhite head. Floral, but faintly herbal aroma. Nice yeast. Soft mouthful with light florals. Just a faint bit of malts and more of that delightfuly spicey yeast. Smooth and crisp. Nicely done.

750mL 2011 ed thanks to Travlr. Pours a clearish orange with a decent white head leaving thick, sticky lace. Nose is floral hoppy, sweet orange, big green olive, salty pimento. Taste is sugary, old characters....tastes a lot like my first batch of saison homebrew: old lemon, celery, lemon tartness. Not bad. Too much celery for me. Tart, thinner palate. Moderate hoppiness. Not too bad.

Bottle. Pours clear gold with an average, fizzy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy straw, meal, and biscuit malt, spicy hops, and fruity esters. Flavor is moderate malt, spicy hops, fruity esters, and light citrus notes with a dry finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation.

Bottle courtesy of beerandblues2, thank you sir! Fake gusher that made GT2 panic, hahaha. Clear and bright yellow, large white head. Aroma of straw and white pepper. Taste is slightly funky and grassy citrus. Not bad.

Spicy and dry. Light brett in the aroma and in the flavor. Grass, and Belgian yeast. Lots of yeast in the aftertaste. Well carbonated.

A good saison. A little simple, but refreshing and nicely flavored. Have had better Saisons, but a good beer nonetheless.

750ml, bottled 2011. Lightly sweet, spicy, fruity aroma, estery and phenolic with notes of tropical fruit, faint pepper, honey and cotton candy. Clear rosy golden in color with a sparse, uneven head. Flavor profile is likewise fruity, lightly sugary and spicy, with suggestions of clove, pineapple, melon and banana, seeing a very mild bitterness blending in at the finish. Semi-dry, effervescent mouthfeel, body is quite full for the style. Good rendition, certainly a hefty one as well.
