COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison is the original summer beer. Originally brewed in southern Belgium for thirsty farm hands, these crisp, bubbly, and refreshing brews demand to be consumed on hot summer days. Our Saison follows centuries of tradition, using European hop varieties—Hallertauer Magnum, Styrian Goldings, and Strisselspalt. We also use a very light base malt accented by just a touch of Wheat and Munich malts. Finally, we ferment the beer very warm with a well-known Belgian yeast strain to bring out the spicy flavors that are common to Saisons. This style pairs well with an astonishing variety of foods. Drink it with grilled sausage or chicken, green curry with coconut milk, or a summer salad with vinaigrette and crumbled bleu cheese.

The Grand Saison is a beer to commemorate warm weather. As its flavors will diminish with time, this is not a beer to be cellared. We recommend you savor it during the long summer days while it is fresh.

750 ml bottle. Bottled May 16, 2011. Pours a hazy orange-yellow with a nice-sized white head with fantastic retention and soapy lace. Aroma consists of pepper, clove. Taste is sweet and fruity, meaty, fantastic. Has a lightly tart finish. Creamy mouthfeel and medium-light carbonation. I loved it.

Pours a beautiful gold with a slight haze. About a finger of head that leaves good lacing. Strong smell of lemon, with a touch of pepper. Taste is very light with strong lemon, clove, and pepper. Finishes with a sweet earthy-citrus note. Medium mouthfeel that fits the saison style perfectly. Has a nice tart finish. Overall, One of the best saisons I’ve enjoyed. The citrus is perfectly balanced with the clove and pepper to make a truly enjoyable beer.

Growler from Greenville Beer Exchange A: Pours a cloudy gold copper with an awesome head. Retention is good as well S: Grassy hops, candy sweetness, Belgian yeast (bubblegum, wintergreen), mild pale malts come through T: Peaches, banana, orchard fruit. Hops give a little twangy touch to it, malts hold it all together MF/O: Fizzly but thick and velvety feel, crisp clean finish of tart and sweet fruit

2011: Musty and funky pear aroma, moderately strong. Cloudy amber, thick head, nice lacing. Pear base with vanilla and blueberry hints. Apricot appears when warm. Lemongrass finish. Distinctive and refreshing.

Pours a hazy light bright orange with about 2 fingers of fizzy white head that laces in chunks. Nose is of wet hay, lemon, a touch of spice. Taste follows suit with a lemon tart finish. A bit sweeter that expected. Crisp but not dry. Spiciness is not over done. Very enjoyable beer especially for $8. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is yeast, spices, mild sweetness and very deep/grainy malts. The flavor is yeast, spices, citrus and a mildly sour/mostly tart finish.

750 mL bottle from The Greenville Beer Exchange, Greenville, SC (bottled May 16, 2011). First off, I am a bit confused. While the label clearly states "Cellar Reserve" the brewer goes to great lengths to explain that this is a beer to be enjoyed fresh (it says it on the tag, I read it) and I bought this beer from a store when it was already 2 years old. With that introduction, this is my review. Pours dark orange with a frothy white head. Aroma of mango and pineapple take over and mask anything else. The taste is less fruity with that slight bitterness, barnyard, and leather that I associate with saisons. The finish is light citrus and just a bit peppery. I am not sure what this tasted like fresh or if the brewer intended for it to be served after 2 years of cellaring, but it has held up quite while and is well suited for the summer months as it was intended. Well done.

Draft at Gourmet Haus Staudt.  Cloudy golden-orange in color with a very large lasting white head and great lacing.  Funky horseblanket and hay on the aroma with green apple notes.  Nice dry flavor with pale malt, underripe light fruits, peppery spice, barnyard, and grass.  Medium-bodied and rather crisp with fairly lively carbonation.  A really nice American saison overall. I’m impressed.
