COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Wake Up Call Imperial Coffee Porter has a distinct and robust coffee flavor that blends harmoniously with the roasted malts. Caramel, chocolate, and black malts give this ale its dark color and overtones of caramel and a cocoa-like sweetness. Only very gently hopped, the addition of coffee shines through, providing a delicious accent to this brew.

750ml, 2011 bottling. Aroma of chocolate and (you guessed it!) coffee, somewhat sweet and roasty, with notes of dark caramel, nut, faint smoke, cream and toasted bread. Brown-black in color with a lasting, foamy tan head. Coffee permeates every aspect of the flavor from start to finish, but is offset with enough chocolate, black bread and dark, malty sweetness to avoid being overly roasty or ashy, finishing with a light-moderate degree of bitterness and spicy, earthy hop flavors, ending fairly dry. Creamy and soft on the palate, effervescence is very present but smooth, body is medium. Very drinkable for a Strong Porter style, not a lot of complexity perhaps but overall is very much as advertised.

Pour out of 2011 bottle is dark brownish black with creamy tan head, aroma brings deep roasted coffee and espresso bean, chocolate, roasted notes, some hints of sweet caramel in there as well but definitely mainly coffee. Taste is a nice mix of espresso, coffee bean type flavors mixing into sweet caramel, some dark chocolate and roast finishes fairly bitter. Pretty nicely done!

Sampled at the DC Local Tasting a 65cl bottle pours a watery, deep mahogany brown with a cloudy, off white head. Nose is nice, coffee grounds, brown sugar, nuts, sweet malt. Flavor is really solid, sweet, coffee, turbinado sugar, brown sugar, a little cake icing. Medium bodied, dry finish. Really solid.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with minimal tan head; spare lacing. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, and dark chocolate. Flavor matches the nose with some earth undertones. Medium body, carbonation, and warmth.

Lätt rökig doft, mycket smak av besk kaffe, lakrits och aska. Eftersmaken är ganska lätt. Inte jätte spännande.

Draft at The Bridge, from notes. Pours a super dark opaque coffee brown with a small tan head that leaves an even sheet of lace in the glass. Aroma is big on coffee, with deep roasted malts, bitter dark chocolate, and brown sugar. Flavor of coffee, bitter dark chocolate, molasses, earth, and burnt caramel. Medium-bodied, with a very roasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Delivers on its promise. Very good.

750mL thanks to noodleuser. Pours with a thicker, mocha head atop clear maroon. Looking near black. Nose is flawless, decent sweeter coffee and cocoa. Comes across as subtle. Taste is mild hazelnut coffee and bitter chocolate. Big carbonation on the palate with thin mouthfeel/little sugar. Sharper palate.

750ml bottle, dated 9/22/11. Pours an opaque black with a creamy light brown head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is roasted coffee and chocolate with some burnt notes.

The flavor is chocolate malt, leather, and coffee with a burnt aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low creamy carbonation.

Overall, this was much better on draft than in the bottle (split the difference with the rating numbers). Draft had more bright coffee with sweet chocolate balance. Some weird leather and burnt notes in the bottle.

Bottle courtesy of noodleuser, thanks! Dark maroon color, beige head. Aroma of coffee (duh!). Taste is dilute black coffee and dark chocolate.
