4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to Josh for sharing this one. Pours a nice brown with ruby notes and a large creamy off white head that left lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel, molasses, nuts, orange peel and toffee. Flavor of toffee, tobacco, citrus, moderate bitterness, light earthy notes and brown sugar.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured dark brown with a lot of tiny grown bubbles and a massive, rocky tan/off-white head. Thick lacing. Heavy caramel and toffee aromas, some wood, licorice, and hay. Thick, viscous mouthfeel for the style. Borders on the "imperial porter" in terms of mouthfeel and taste. Lots of caramel and earthy hop resins, blended with grain and dark chocolate flavors. Bitter, yes, but not in the expected overly-golding hops way. More of a resiny-wood bite. I liked this a lot, but don’t find this to be the ESB it claims it is. More of an American SA.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
1Liter bottle-pours a rich frothy tan head that laces and cloudy brown/orangy color. Aroma is great northwest resin/citrus hops, background medium malt. Taste is great northwest resin/citrus-tangerine hops, earthy, secondary medium/dark malt-roasty/slightly burnt/chocolate. An enjoyable cross of American and English, a little thin on finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JAN 13, 2009 1L bottle from Bevmo. Pours a cloudy brown color with a fair sized tan head that has good retention and leaves plenty of lacing. Aroma is strong with piney biter hops, walnuts, toffee and caramel. The flavor is hops forward with a good biter bite that gives way to leather, tobacco, caramel, brown sugar and a touch of molasses. The mouthfeel is full and smooth with soft carbonation. The finish is long with lingering biter hops and some caramel. Overall: This is an outstanding big hoppy beer. Very tasty.
Re-rate note: I drank this over a period of two days. It had a swing top after all. But on the second day it was badly oxidized and uninteresting. I recommend drink it in one sitting. This recommendation made irrespective of its imposing size. One liter is a lot of beer after all.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
1 L swingtop bottle purchased at Pole Line Nugget in Davis, CA. Bottled 10/21/08, consumed on 11/19/08. This has an annoying wax covering the swing top. What’s the point of that? Took me 5 minutes to open this fucker. The beer has a very nice piney, orange, and citrus c-hop nose. Quite quaffable. Moderately hazy cola-colored body with a pretty frothy yellow-tan head. Fair lacing. A very attractive beer. Starts a bit peppery before a lot of heavy roasted maltiness takes over. Very chewy with some tobacco notes and a little cocoa. Rich. Finishes lightly sweet with herbal, piney, and peppery hop flavors. I like this a lot...surprisingly. Drink this now, as the hops balance this very nicely. I did subtract an overall point because of the fucking wax.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Color is an almost opaque amber with good carbonation and a tall head that stays tight in the center and a bit loose around the edge as it slowly falls. Aroma is hoppy with a caramel roasted tone in back. Taste is rich and hoppy. Starting with a medium body it goes down fizzy with a rich feel. Finish comes on malty sweet the hops jump out with a fresh grassy or hay flavor and a mild bitterness. After taste is more hops as the bitterness grows. Overall its a bold and tasty with some interesting and complex hop flavors.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is an attractive opaque brown ale that poured with a decent tan head and a rich malt aroma. There is a sweet chocolate flavor with some dark fruit and a slightly sour finish. Some nice hopping causes this to be a very balanced brew, just as an ESB should be.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
1L swingtop. Poured a real nice mahogony color with a light tan head. Amost smells like a barleywine, lots of rich maltyness and dark fruits. Taste is a little thinner than the aroma, but still very good. A slight bitterness in the finish as well.

Toasty malt and cracker aroma. Dark brown pour with a nice head. Very toasty. The hops are somewhat restrained, but noticeable, and tasty. Very nice. Thanks Austin,
