2 finger head is impressive... sorta a yellowy lite tan.... descent amount of lace... the brew is very brown. Nose is big and hoppy and still very malty... caramel and toffee with citric and piney hops... yeasty fruity esters too... smell is very complex. big bitterness out of the gate.. melts into caramel with sorta a cigar flavor... not the smoke.. but rough tobacco... piney hops with a blast of fruitiness... some cocoa throughout... but it tends to be drowned out by the massive flavor of this brew. Body is fairly thick and the lite carbonation accentuates that you are drinking a huge brew. I like this... I am trying to think of something over the years that sorta comes close to describing it... it actually sorta reminds me of a fruity English BW...

Pours reddish-brown with a thin whitish head. Nutty malt aroma with earthy hops. This is one of the best brown ales I've had. Nutty and toasted malt flavor meets a crisp hoppiness. Medium bodied and a pleasant fizziness. Very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

25.4 ounce bottle. Pours a dark hazy brown with a one inch tan head that lasts. Taste is of roasted malt, caramel, fruit, yeast, sugar, grass, wheat, citrus, pine, resin and hops. Similar aroma. Have a cloying body with a dry and bitter finish. A little boozy towards the end. Tastes good and goes down easy.

Bottle into snifter, pours a murky brown and quickly dissipating head. This one was dated Aug 6, 2012. Quite a complex smelling and tasting brew, however it remains smooth and balanced. I agree with previous comments about the 7.5% seeming lower than it really is. Itís not boozy mind you, just strong...quite strong. Iím glad Iíve got a large bottle in front of me. This may very well be my first DESB.

2008 fucken a bro bottle opened at home that was fucken stupid hard to get open due to the massive amount of wax. First whiff and this is a textbook example of oxidation. Pours a bit hazy, dark brown head with a dark brown head (that is surprisingly strong for the age). Somewhat boozy, caramel, cardboard/papery, quite sweet aroma. Fairly is similarly spicy and boozy with some toffee, caramel, cardboard, and some herbal notes. Goddamn, for what is supposedly 7.5% abv, this sure tastes stronger. Definitely wasnít meant to be kept this long but it is still somewhat interesting in its own right.

Dark brown in color with a bright orange-hued, cream colored head, this double ESB smells great! Fresh, sweet, bright hops and caramel malts make for a happy, candy-like aroma. It has a meaty quality that couples with a somewhat thin body and an easy but robust palate. Smooth and nice.

Bottle: pours deep ruby brown, milky light brown head that persists. Nose is big, dark fruits, biscuit, burnt toast, toffee and milk chocolate. Milk thistle, roasted malts and some mild pine notes, molasses and toffee sugars bring lactic acids that envelope the tongue. Milky, chocolate and roasted coffee malt heaven here. Bold flavored beer not for the faint of heart. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
