2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
My Bottom Line:
Dusty earthy, leafy hops develop spicy bitterness around chocolate and caramel malt for an incohesive, and perhaps poorly tendered, American-style Strong Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the opaque mahogany brown. This looks like a Dunkler Bock.
-Oxidation seems to have broken down some of this brew’s appeal (if I rely on other reviews).
-The hops are also citrusy, but this fruity character clashes with the chosen grain bill (in my tastes).
-In a similar flavor profile, Terrapin’s Big Hoppy Monster showed a lot more cohesion and cleanliness. This Bitch Creek appeared sloppy in comparison.
-The flavor profile is nonetheless balanced.

Tasting at Papsø
Cloudy brown color. Nice hop aroma, American, resiny and sweaty. Simple caramel flavor, chocolate, with some residual sweetness, good hopping, resiny but not aggressive. Strong bitterness. Unfocused but pleasant.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. A hazy dark amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of hops, grapefruit, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, caramel, and bread, leading to a dry and very bitter finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
1 L bottle, courtesy of Papsoe. Pours hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is wooden and dark malty. Light fruity accent. Smooth caramelish and roasted to dark breadish malt flavoured. Interesting with rather aromatic US hops to counterbalance the dense malt flavours. Gives a citric twist, yet also towards dominant in the flavour profile. Dry and citric into a dry finish.
