Bottle from bevmo. Dark brown with a foamy tan head. Caramel toffee and hops aroma. Rich buttery taste with mild bitterness. Quite mellow brew.

RSRIZZO (1683) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - JAN 1, 2009
Color is an almost opaque amber with good carbonation and a tall head that stays tight in the center and a bit loose around the edge as it slowly falls. Aroma is hoppy with a caramel roasted tone in back. Taste is rich and hoppy. Starting with a medium body it goes down fizzy with a rich feel. Finish comes on malty sweet the hops jump out with a fresh grassy or hay flavor and a mild bitterness. After taste is more hops as the bitterness grows. Overall its a bold and tasty with some interesting and complex hop flavors.

marcus (4056) - Sacramento, California, USA - DEC 28, 2008
This is an attractive opaque brown ale that poured with a decent tan head and a rich malt aroma. There is a sweet chocolate flavor with some dark fruit and a slightly sour finish. Some nice hopping causes this to be a very balanced brew, just as an ESB should be.

Hophead22 (2393) - Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA - DEC 27, 2008
1L swingtop. Poured a real nice mahogony color with a light tan head. Amost smells like a barleywine, lots of rich maltyness and dark fruits. Taste is a little thinner than the aroma, but still very good. A slight bitterness in the finish as well.

Toasty malt and cracker aroma. Dark brown pour with a nice head. Very toasty. The hops are somewhat restrained, but noticeable, and tasty. Very nice. Thanks Austin,

JPDIPSO (4957) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 11, 2008
Chestnut color with a hint of garnet when held to the light. Smaller light tan head. Big malt and big hops scents. Caramel and earthy malt aromas blend with pine and citric hops. Solid strong aroma. Good mix of malt and hops albeit this does come across more like a strong american ale than an ESB. Caramel and toasted malt dominate in the front. FLoral and lightly citirc hops in the middle balance the sweetness. Finish has a sharp bitter bite that distacts from the overall smoothness of this one. Spicy linger that ends up thin in the malt department. The malt great in the front, but seem to languish in the end. a decent strong ale.

Sparky (2129) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - DEC 11, 2008
1liter bottle courtesy of aplusbreaks. Man is it hard to get a swing top open after being dipped in wax.. Once that was conquered, the beer pours a deep dark amber with a dense 3 finger tan head with great lacing and a stubborn iceberg in the middle. Nose is floral hops and roasted malts. Taste is light cocoa, floral hops, toasted malt, light dark fruits and a nice hoppy finish. Medium semi creamy mouth feel. Better than the regular Bitch Creek. Good beer, thanks for sending it Austin.

bhensonb (7589) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 10, 2008
1liter bottle from BevMo in Natomas. Very dark ruby color with a vigorous light tan head. Aromas of roast malt and floral hop. Roughly medium in body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is a bit gritty, and highly chocolate. Hop is more floral than anything. Not really dry, and the bitter might be more from the malt than the hop. I doubt England has ever seen a chocolate ESB, but who knows. Well worth trying.

Excellent double ESB. Dark coco and coffee notes, some salty carmel. Drank better after being opened about 30 minutes also. Really long finish. Really good beer in a 1L bottle for under $14. Could see this improving with maybe 6 months of age but nothing long term.
