3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Giant wax-covered flip-top (stop doing that!).. dated 9/26/08. Poured medium garnet with a fluffy, sticky cap of dark tan head.. looked great! The aroma picked up redder fruits, biscuits, and brown sugar, accented by spicy earth and more residual brown sugars.. sweet overall and well-balanced. The flavor had raisins, other dark fruits, and bread at the core.. fruity vinegar tartness was laced throughout.. brown sugar and toffee were scattered around the edges.. finished warm and a bit sour, too heavy to be refreshing. Medium-bodied with only OK balance on the palate (not sure if the tartness was supposed to be there).. lots of residual graininess and warmth on the finish.. this was most certainly solid, but it showed age and was likely better a year ago.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
1 litre bottle. Pours a deep dark reddish brown with glints of ruby when held against sunlight with a moderate tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left partial lace. Heavy aroma of malt with notes of caramel, molasses and plums. The flavor is not quite as intense as the aroma nor as sweet with malt, molasses, plums and a bit of coffee. Moderate bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied and a little sticky on the palate, which I thought fit this beer just fine. Good stuff!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Dark mahogany color with a full puffy brown head. Nice hoppy chinook aroma with a malty caramel note similar to the regular. The body is bitter and there’s a bit more going on in the hop department but this seems like maybe a 1.25 X bitch creek, not XX. Bitch creek is great and this is up there too though. I’m just always disappointed with the hype in the XX series.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - thanks ditmier. One of the most beautiful pours I have ever seen... Dark auburn with a mountain of thick, creamy nutmeg colored head. Aroma is rich with sweet caramel, citrus, and floral hops. First sip is a smooth and mellow malty blend with faded hops. Some piney notes and earthiness before a lingering floral bitter tail. Still, quite smooth. Kinda has some chocolate in teh back... Great balance and blend, truly one of the better GT brews sampled to date.
