4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Waxed liter swing cap bottle purchased somewhere in NY by Jimmie shared on Superbowl Sunday. Poured a good looking muddy darker brown with a smaller foamy biege head. Aroma is nice with lots of syrupy chocolate up front followed by some more typical barley wine sweet malt notes like toffee, molasses, raisin and honey along with some thick grains that reminds me of a raisin bagel. Excellent palate that was medium to fuller with a slight syrupy feel along with lively carbonation that held up well for the age ot this beer. Flavor is just like the aroma with lots of chocolate blending in with sweet malt notes like molassess, honey and toffee along with strong grains. This is a solid beer and reminds me of a chocolatey barley wine, good stuff.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2008. consumed alone on 10/04/09.
really dark auburn color with a 2.5 inch orange tinted khaki head with enormous amounts of clingy foam.
initial aroma of nutmeg and spices... followed by orange, sweet grain, nearly burned caramel, floral and herbal hops, some chocolate, vanilla, dark cherries, raisins and dates. itís quite deep and rich smelling.
the palate is a bit sweet but it is very well balanced by dryness from green hop oils and dirty leaves... flavors of brown sugar/caramel/butterscotch, slight spice, herbal grassiness, dried fruits, bready grains and some porter-like qualities.
it is borderline full bodied... at least for something at 7.5%. soft luscious carbonation makes it really rich. it is sweet but not sticky or cloyingly so. since i am drinking this beast alone, it does get a bit boring by the end.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sept 26th 2008 vintage 1 Liter swing top thanks to Nicole as a 30th birthday present. The beer pours to a really deep ruby body with a super thick creamy light brown head. The aroma is grassy and bitter with a deep malt and strong toffee. The flavor is deeply toasted malt with some dry pine grass hop. Bitter. Toffee on the finish. The palate is strongly bitter and medium bodied. Nice coating texture.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle, sample courtesy of Grand Teton. Appreciated! Pours a murky, amber-brown color with a modestly formed, creamy light-tan head. Aroma shows some rich milk chocolate, red fruits, and an endearing floral / earthy hop character; nicely rendered and rounded, with no alcohol poking through (at least at a relatively cool temperature). Creamy texture, with medium-full body and soft carbonation; loads of rich chocolate malt character, showing through quite nicely, surrounded by ripe red berry notes, a touch of a lactic / milky quality (heightened by the creaminess), and the sweetness remains in check courtesy of a pronounced core bitterness, offering pine and citrus and earthiness. Overall, a damn expressive beer and a pleasure to drink. I didnít care much for the Raging Badger "Berliner Weisse" (tasted more like a German-style hefeweizen), but everything else Iíve had recently from Grand Teton has been solid. Lasting finish of milk chocolate and roast and earthy bitterness, with perhaps just a touch of acetaldehyde poking out right at the very end; a light amount of green apple that melds well with the other parts.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
1 litre bottle. Pours a deep dark reddish brown with glints of ruby when held against sunlight with a moderate tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left partial lace. Heavy aroma of malt with notes of caramel, molasses and plums. The flavor is not quite as intense as the aroma nor as sweet with malt, molasses, plums and a bit of coffee. Moderate bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied and a little sticky on the palate, which I thought fit this beer just fine. Good stuff!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
1 L swingtop bottle purchased at Pole Line Nugget in Davis, CA. Bottled 10/21/08, consumed on 11/19/08. This has an annoying wax covering the swing top. Whatís the point of that? Took me 5 minutes to open this fucker. The beer has a very nice piney, orange, and citrus c-hop nose. Quite quaffable. Moderately hazy cola-colored body with a pretty frothy yellow-tan head. Fair lacing. A very attractive beer. Starts a bit peppery before a lot of heavy roasted maltiness takes over. Very chewy with some tobacco notes and a little cocoa. Rich. Finishes lightly sweet with herbal, piney, and peppery hop flavors. I like this a lot...surprisingly. Drink this now, as the hops balance this very nicely. I did subtract an overall point because of the fucking wax.
