COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To commemorate that twenty-year history, the brewers of Grand Teton have chosen four of our favorite beers--three current, one historical--to update and enhance. XX Mountainberry Double Wheat Ale is the second release in our 2008 XX series.

Grand Teton’s original fruit beer, Huckleberry Wheat, was brewed for about five years beginning more than a decade ago. It was light and sparkly, with just a hint of sweet-tart mountain huckleberry.

This year’s celebratory version is bigger in every way--more than double the original’s malt, fermented to 7.6% alcohol by volume, then flavored with more than a pound per gallon of fresh Pacific Northwest huckleberries, blueberries and marionberries.

Bold and flavorful, XX Mountainberry Double Wheat makes a wonderful aperitif, or try it with a balsamic vinaigrette salad, glazed ham, duck a l’orange or fruity dessert.

Shared bottle. Pours hazy dark straw with clingy off-white head. Nose is heavy wheat, berries, backup hops. Tastes wheaty, with hops and substantial, well-integrated berry flavors and a tart finish.

A: Purplish/Reddish Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head, Decent /lacing S: Wheat, Grape Juice T: Wheat, Blueberry, Cranberry M: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Lightly Sweet, Lightly Boozy Overall, a pretty nice beer but a little too boozy for a sweeter wheat beer.

Bottle at a recent bottle share... Poured ruby-reddish, berry juice-like with a thin head. This was surprisingly decent. Wheat Wine style made a great base for all the fruit. Mixed berries and malt sweetness sort lent towards berry-yogurt.

The biggest problem with this beer is that the fruit flavor and aroma was...odd. I actually said that it taste like niacin, or one of the B vitamins. And sweet! oh, so sweet. cloying. I mean, this wasn’t horrible, but a sample was enough.

Lightly hazed brown pour with foamy tan head. Aroma is flat/old berries and a brown sugar note. Flavor is sweet brown sugar with a funky flat berry flavor. A strange flat tartness as well. Medium bodied but a tad fizzy for me. From a damn big bottle I’m thankful I didn’t have to drink by myself. Not all bad but not real good.

Hazy orange with a thin white head. Fruity with alcohol and a medicinal cough syrup aroma. The flavor is light, fruity with none of the alcohol notes perceived in the aroma.

Pours a clear deep amber with ruby hints and a large frothy, clumpy-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet berry nose with a hint of fruity tartness and malted wheat. Starts fairly full with a chewy wheaty sweetness and some nice berry complexity with a touch of hoppy bitter balance and doughy yeast before a drier sweet-tart finish. A pretty unique and well-balanced beer.

A: ruby / mahogany color with a nice billowing head that is quite dense. Excellent lretention and lacing. The side of the glass looks like it has been frosted with snow after finishing the drink :) S: a nice balance of malt flavor, wheat, and a hint of acidic berry. The berries become more pronounced as it warms up. T: Not much berry flavor which I’m happy about. Just a hint in the background that doesn’t draw your attention away from the beautiful malt and wheat balance. The malt presence is a tad submissive to the wheat flavor which I like. M: very smooth with a perfect amount of carbonation. D: Easy drinker all the way! BTW the wax coated swivel top is a pain to remove but classy none the less. Poured a hazy deep copper color with a large off-white head. The aroma smelled like dirty berries. The flavor was wheaty with berries. Slick on the tongue. Light bodied with a taste and feel of alcohol. A mess.

1 Liter bottle. Pours a hazy deep orange amber with a spritzy moderate head- no lace. Aroma is wheaty dough, crackers, light toast, corn flakes, light fruit juice, violets, floral, and blackberry and artificial sweeteners. Flavor is doughy with wheat, some juice, berry, flowery, blackberry, gets a bit solvent and phenolic with earthy leather and astringent finish.
