Commercial Description:
Sweetgrass India Pale Ale has been a GTBC staple since early 2002. Brewed solidly in the American IPA style, Sweetgrass is crisp and fragrant with a generous yet smooth hop character. XX Sweetgrass is all that twice over, with double the malt and double the hops--an astonishing three pounds per barrel in the kettle and another pound per barrel of "dry-hops" added after fermentation. The hops provide citrusy, resinous spiciness, making this beer a great match for any bold, flavorful food.

Appearance: clear dark copper, wispy beige head, drops of lace,
Aroma: sweet grapefruit aroma with a hint of tangerine,
Flavor: lots of sweet fruity tangerine flavor, low balancing flavoring hops other than the fruity and citrus character, light bitter finish, as it warms the sweetness and bitterness develops a very nice interplay,
Overall: a different iipa in that it’s all about the fruity hop character rather than big bitterness or agressive hops, a nice change

still sweet and fruity with the tangerine taking the lead, light bitterness still provides some balance, low carbonation,

1 liter, green waxed, bottle acquired in trade with jimbowood (thanks!). 2006 vintage. Poured a deeper orange color with an averged sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, earthy, orange peels, fruit rinds, and caramel. Tastes of citrus, same earthiness, and caramel.

Bottle... NFL Day at dchmela’s in O-Town... Lightly hazed, burnt orange ale with a huge, frothy, off-white head. Fantastic, rocky retention. The aroma presents resinous hops and tons of caramel malt. Full-bodied and velvety with gentle carbonation. Sweet, black tea... bitterness comes in late. Malty/sweet, tongue-numbing finish. Thanks to douglas88 for providing this bottle of beer!

(1L Bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a small white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, toasted malt, grass, earthiness, and floral/herbal notes. Flavor of sweet fresh citrus, caramel, and lightly bitter hoppiness.

Pours a transparent copper orange with a thin, wispy white head. Aroma of fairly fresh grapefruity hops and lightly sweet caramel malt. Body starts with some sugary sweet caramel candy malt with a drier, mildly earthy and citrusy hop balance. A decent IIPA.

1Liter bottle-pours a thin off white head and copper color. Aroma is hops, then plenty of caramel-medium malt. Taste is first some sweet caramel medium malt, slick medium hops-resiny, then the sweet malt comes back. OK/mild carbonation.

Pours copper with a lingering white head ans superb lacing. Smells of chewy caramel, pine resin, lots of citrus and pepper. Tastes of sweet malt, doughy yeast, oranges and caramel. Not as over the top on bitterness and a little more malty than a typical IIPA but very drinkable and enjoyable.

Golden to orange in color with a smaller ecru colored head. Big syrupy scent. Malt, honey caramel, citrus and ripe fruit in the aroma. Some higher alcohols and a bit of toasted nuts also float in and out. Fruity flavors dominate with light fruit of currants, plums and apricots. Some alcohol present with a stewed fruit or rum type quality. Flavors seem stronger than the 7.6% stated abv. If you like a strong flavored IIPA this should be your cup of juice. I like it even-though there are some rather crude characteristics at time.
