Comments: Surprisingly well executed original idea, sweet and displaying the honey as a pleasant kiss towards the finish.

Cask @ The Wenlock Arms. Deep brown with a thin off white head. Sweet malty nose with some fruit hints. Taste is also sweet and malty, the honey is quite strong, then comes coffee, liquorice and again fruit in the finish. Medium bodied. I found it a bit sickly but interesting.

Cask (The Met, London) Jet black, thick head. Burning bread aroma. Very rich burnt taste, sweet and malty. A bit creamy in the mouth, also a tiny brown sour taste. Burnt finish. Odd that Wetherspoons didn’t ruin this.

Cask@GBBF2007. Dark amber colour, small brown bubbly head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and very mild honeyish hints. Flavour is the same, but the honey is showing up a bit stronger.

Cask@GBBF. Strong honey aroma with hints of licorice and coffee. Black color, light brown irregular head, fair lace. Sweet, honey, starts licorice but finishes with coffee. Soft mouthfeel, very pleasant.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Glossy black colour with a thin white head; faint honey aroma and some malt but less than I expected; quite sour when first tasted, but then full of syrupy aromatic honey; very sweet finish with an underlying smoky bitterness. Much too sweet for my taste, but well made.

A Mes rate: Cask @ Baker Street JDW. Sweet creamy aroma with just a hint of the honey. Great colour as would be expected with a porter. Creamy sweet flavour with lots of dark fruit and again just a hint of the honey. Where is the coffee? Ahh there it is. Just in time for the finish topped off with some very apparent alcohol. A porter Jim, but not as we know it.

Cask conditioned at Catford BF 2006. A very dark almost black with amber hues. Sweet roasted malt and a touch of smoke in the aroma - smoked sausage. Full body and slightly oily with a rugged roast flavour. No obvious honey.
