COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; seasonal - November.
A different recipe every year but always very strong, warming and tasty. Perfect for sipping in front of an open fire (but don’t fall in).

Cask gravity at Red Lion, Snargate. Lots of liquorice, dark roasted malts on the aroma. Very dark ruby colour with thin disappearing head. Bit of dark treacle. Lovely in mouth, bit of warmth from the alcohol and a bit sticky. Good old ale though

Cask@The Evening Star, Brighton. Lightly sweet, nutty start, some chocolate biscuits. Nice drying, slightly lemony acidity. A pleasant old ale, which was quite easy to get in to.

Cask conditioned - handpump - White Horse - Parsons Green London SW6. I may be mistaken but I thought this was called Old Ale II on the pumpclip so may be a different beer in which case mine, kook’s, Dan’s and Joe’s ratings should be moved? In any case a very dark coloured beer with a sour aroma with some coal thrown in. There is good balanced alcohol in the taste which is really pleasant as well as being a bit nicely vinuous.

Hand pulled at the White Horse, Parsons Green, London (as part of their Old Ale festival), with Joeh, Kook, Duff and Maeib. Dark brown with ruby hints, but no head. Some choc in the aroma. Reasonable stuff - some roast, which gets washed away by a sweet/sour tang.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2004 Light raisin aroma with some caramel / toffee present too. Amber/light brown in colour. Sweet caramel start with raisins in the mid. Dry slightly roasty finish. Smooth medium feel. I enjoyed it. Re-Rate: Exact same score. I got some nutty notes this time too. Slightly citric as well. Not a bad beer.

Cask conditioned at the White Horse, Parsons Green, London. Banana notes with roasty, chococlate character, coffee also.
