COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special - October 2005 (One Hop Series).
Each beer features a single variety of hop from around the world. Every beer in the series undergoes five separate additions of the particular hop into the brew kettle. All the beers will have the same degree of hoppy bitterness, and drinkers are able to compare the aroma, flavour, and pleasing aftertaste of each of the varieties. Instead of using specialty malts that might mask the flavour of the hop, only Maris Otter pale malt is used. Maris Otter is the finest strain of malt available. With only pale malt used, there is little to come between the hop lover and the hop.

Cask handpull at Wenlock Arms, London. Gold colour with lasting white head. Wonderful nose of chinook hops. Fullish in mouth and then kicking spicey hop finish. Brilliant.

Cask (handpump), Willow Walk (JDW), London SW1. Pale gold colour with a thin white head. Whilst the Grand Union One Hop concept is an interesting one, sometimes I think it is sometimes compromised by rather timid hop levels. Either Chinook is not as aromatic as other US hops or that applies to this beer. The subtle aroma (may be more down to JDW serving temperature than the beer itself) is more grassy than perfumed. Flavour is mainly citric - lots of grapefruit - with a spicy bite. Very dry and quite bitter, this develops strongly on the finish and in the lasting aftertaste. Its a very fresh tasting beer, with a crisp mouthfeel. A good quaffer, but hardly bursting with flavour.
