COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special (One Hop series) - October 2006.
Each beer features a single variety of hop from around the world. Every beer in the series undergoes five separate additions of the particular hop into the brew kettle. All the beers will have the same degree of hoppy bitterness, and drinkers are able to compare the aroma, flavour, and pleasing aftertaste of each of the varieties. Instead of using specialty malts that might mask the flavour of the hop, only Maris Otter pale malt is used. Maris Otter is the finest strain of malt available. With only pale malt used, there is little to come between the hop lover and the hop.

Cask handpull at Simple Simons, Canterbury. Clear gold with lasting off white head. Hoppy aroma. Lovelyin mouth, right balance of pale biscuity malt with some later juicyness. Then dry hop finish. Hop is slightly astringent on aroma, but reasonably subtle on end. Utterly drinkable. Hop shows a little sherbert on finish. Another nice beer in this series

Gravity, Turf Tavern Autumn Ale Festival. Shiny pale gold, cap of off-white. Spicy, pine hops with a nice fruity esters. Pleasantly soft palate, good chewy bitterness that transitions to a nice mellow mellow malt. Solid.

Cask@The Magpie&Crown, Brentford, London. Quite crisp and bitter, with a definite grassy hop note. Surprisingly clean and as i mentioned before, especially for a cask beer. Some light sweet honeyed characters aswell. Not bad.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2010 Cask conditioned, gravity dispense at St. Albans BF ’06. Gold & headless with perfumey hop aroma & a bitter & perfumey-hoppy flavour. Another enjoyable "One Hop" beer. A quick Google reveals Magnum to be a hop usually used for "bittering" rather than to provide aroma or flavour so its full characteristics are probably rarely on show as they are here. The "One Hop" series is now well into its mid-thirties- I’ve managed eight. How many more cultivated hop varieties are there?
