COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A distinctive copper colored, full-bodied ale. Though you may have sampled it in Toronto, this beer originated at the Halifax Granite.

Pours a clear rubyish orange with small soapy off-white head. Aroma is toffee with some fruit and light floral hops. Flavour is quite toffee-ish with more restrained fruitiness and floral hops. Lightly carbonated. Ok, but not my favourite Granite beer.

Long bitter grassy hop finish. Opens with pale and peachy fruit, spicy peppery hop. Foggy orange gold with whisper of white head. Mild aromas of fruit. Overall very aggressive dry palate.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2011 Draft sample at Henry House. Poured with a small, foamy head, very little lacing. Amber/orange colour. Slight sour aroma. Thin, mildly bitter taste. Flat body. Pretty much everything I dislike about English bitters faithful recreated in Canada. The Best Bitter Special is better in pretty much every way.

Although Granite’s best bitter special is superior (this one has a touch less hops etc.), this one is certainly not a bad bitter by any means. Almost has a sweet aroma, though the taste is solid hops without the sweetness. On tap at Toronto.

Nice easy session beer. Very approachable. Bitter end. Lighter mouthfeel for me than with the Special Bitter. Still a solid beer.

DuffMan (4429) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 10, 2011
On tap @ The Henry House in Halifax, enjoyed as part of a tasting tray. Clear medium amber, low head, low carbo. Lighter body with floral hop character on toffee, with hints of chocolate. Smooth cask mouthfeel.

On tap at the Toronto location, amber-orange color, with a big pillowy white-beige head, nice fruity, floral hop nose of ripe apples, citrus skin, with a mild leafy, grassy accent in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a good floweery hoop leafy, grassy, citrusy, minty character with some lemon, grapefruit rind flavours, and a herbal bitter cloverleaf undertone, leading towards a fruity, lemony, citrusy, leafy, grassy hop bitterness finish.

I thought this was excellent. Sweet cereal/caramel malts up front, followed by intensely fragrant floral/grassy hops. Beautiful balance between sweet/sour/bitter and allows hops to shine through. Really gets hop flavour and aroma.

Tap at the brewpub in Toronto. Pours a light golden with a thin lasting head. Aroma is much cleaner than Peguliar- still nice light fruitiness, and some light floral and earthy hops. Falvor is fresh crackery malts, light toast, and a clean mineral grassy hoppy bitterness. Nice and easy drinking.

great english hop aroma, with a nice biscuity malt, a great session ale, great to have such a great bitter this easily available while in Toronto.
