Rastacouere (5270), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Aug 10, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A very loosely executed old ale of brash fruity lineage.
I like:
Pleasant caramelly aroma.
I dislike:
Uncohesive malt display lacking any trace of unity between the toastiness and fruitiness. Hesitating between sweet and tart. Juicy (hence the fruitiness coming as much from the texture than the malts) and loose bodied. Decent as a replacement for cranberry juice, but far from having the richness you’d like in an old ale, very, very timid toastiness and no roastiness even attempts to compensate.
Doux et riche, bien plaisant! matt7215 (564), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Jun 1, 2008 on tap at granite brewery toronto. served a nice reddish brown with a frothy tan head. malty aromas with caramel sweetness, dark fruitiness and some chocolate. flavours are rich and chewy malt. dark fruit with bitter chocolate and some sweetness near the finish. smooth, palatable, and session worthy. ill be goin back for a growler of this one. glennmastrange (395), hobe sound, Florida, USA Jan 27, 2008 Cask, hand drawn. Malts smelled of moderate coffe and dark bread, hops of moderate resin, yeast of moderate earth and cheese, with wood and wine in the background. Head is creamy, off-white, with thick 100% coating of the glass lacing and is fully lasting. Color is clear, flat and dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, dry, with a soft carbonation. A unique bunch of tastes in this beer, I liked this one a lot. Bobsy (196), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 18, 2007 On tap at the Granite Brewery in Toronto. Deep ruby red liquid underneath a huge rocky head. Beautiful to look at. Aroma and flavour both have strong caramel and chocolate notes. Quite smooth and fresh tasting. A very sessionable drink.
