A very special brew, originally made in honor of the 1,000th batch of beer brewed at our Sioux Falls brewery. Cascade and Summit hops dominate the flavor of this beer, giving intense citrus & pine character.

On tap: The aroma consists of moderate citrus, a hint of candied orange, and mild grapefruit. Itís a slightly hazy amber with a small off-white head that fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There is some thick webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate citrus/orange, and a hint of lemon. The finish has mild grapefruit. Itís medium bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel. Overall, this is very easy drinking, but I wish there was more bitterness in the finish.

Nice amber coloration with a decent foam. Piney aroma with hints of orange and lemon. Pretty bitter but the hop flavor comes through nicely. Finish is pleasing and dry.

Sampled from the tap at the St. Cloud location. Pours a hazy earthy gold with a near white head that dissipates completely. Aroma has notes of flora and bitter citrus with sweet grain backing. Flavor is more musty citrus with a touch of pine and a bit of grain backing.

Pours a reddish orange color. Notes of pine, and lots of orange citrus. A bit thin for such a high alcohol beer.

On tap at granite city in Roseville. Nice pour with a decent amount of carbonation. Hazy copper color with nice lacing. Surprisingly nice aftertaste. Decent amount of bitterness at the back of the tongue. The low scores of this beer are a bit suprising. This is a good beer.

Pour on tap at the brewpub in Eagan, hazy orange red pour with white head, aroma brought notes of orange, grapefruit, slight grass into biscuit, slight peach, hints of earth. Taste was a mix of grass, orange, slight herbal notes into some biscuit, finishing spicy, herbal.

Donít be fooled by the score - much like the rest of the Granite City lineup this release falls just shy of average. As uninspired as the rest of the drafts, this one would have been my go to only because by packing so many ingredients into the recipe theyíve produced something that lasts more than 30 seconds before all interest is lost.

Aroma / Appearance - A caramel orange body sticks to the sides while paired with a creamy ivory head. Grapefruit, mango, and muted bitterness open up in the air with a vibrant brightness that hints at yeast and cotton candy. Sadly though it fades like a morning fog leaving only traces behind.

Flavor / Palate - Bitter citrus sticks to the tongue longer than any other beer. The amped up recipe remains the likely culprit because after a minute or two it carries to a semisweet half hearted finish. Passable at least, this beer offers the best of any Granite City release I tried (not that I will be going back any time soon).

The Duke X2. Twice the good, flavor, taste, and nearly double the alcohol. Worth it.
