COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A very special brew, originally made in honor of the 1,000th batch of beer brewed at our Sioux Falls brewery. Cascade and Summit hops dominate the flavor of this beer, giving intense citrus & pine character.

Beer is a hazy copper color. Very low hop aroma for a double IPA. More malty than a typical DIPA. Overall a very balanced beer. I prefer my DIPA more on the hoppy side.

On tap at the cedar rapids brewpub. Kind of an ugly gray pour. Murky appearance and the flavor was kind of the same. Muddy flavors with a thin body. Not so much.

4 oz draft sampler pours hazy amber with a off white head. Aroma of citrus, floral and malts. Taste is a piney citrus and malts.

16 oz. pour, on tap at the Maple Grove, MN location of the brewpub. Listed as “Batch 1000 Dbl IPA.” Pours a clear copper/bronze with a small amount of beige head. Produces decent lacing. Nice, piney, citric smell (mostly piney). Cookie, pretzel, cleaning product, and chlorine scents. Smells like a freshly painted room. At first I legitimately enjoyed the smell, but the unappetizing chemical notes that were present from the beginning became increasingly evident as I consumed the beverage. Piney, lemon flavor. One dimensional taste: Very little malt presence in the flavor, although there is a touch of sweetness. There is a cracker and cardboard blandness to the flavor. I can taste the alcohol even though the beer doesn’t come across as particularly strong because the malt presence is so weak. Slightly chemical-y dry finish. Medium body. Lively and frothy in the palate. This is not an awful beer, although it is well subpar for the style. It hits the notes of a double IPA, it just doesn’t hit them all that well. Its flaws become increasingly apparent as I drink.

Draft. Orange malt and peel aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet orange juice malt and orange peel flavor. Not bad - standard.

Not much going on here. 72 IBUs usually departs hippiness and bitterness, not here.

I wouldn’t call this a double IPA so do not be intimidated by the title. It’s a mild IPA at best. Light hop aroma which continues through to the flavor. A little bit of skunk.

Tap at GC in Eagan, MN. Bright golden orange pour with a small spotty white head. Some pine and citrus aroma - not bad. Palate is pretty thin and there isn’t much richness to the taste. Just okay.

Reviewed from notes. Consumed June 9, 2013 as I was driving across country. The appearance is a orange/brown colored body with a one finger white foamy head that dies within thirty seconds, a moderate amount of lacing is left. The aroma - well, its definitely a malt forward DIPA, strong all the way through, hops barely play any sort of balance. The taste is mainly sweet through the malts, sweet aftertaste, dry sticky finish. On the palate, she sits about a medium, maybe sessionable - perhaps, carbonation seems a bit undercarbonated for the style, but pretty good to me as it leads to a very smooth texture, ABV is not felt. Overall, well, the best thing about this beer is the palate as it demonstrates a pretty good smoothness that isn’t usually felt among most DIPA’s, but everything else is mostly just average, unsure if I would have this again.

12/22/2013: Granite City Batch 1,000... This is the typical over-done citrus Imperial IPA. It’s okay, but lacks depth, bitterness, and anything unique. It goes down smoothly, but doesn’t leave me wanting for more. Draught at Granite City in Maumee, Ohio. Rating #32 for this beer.

Stinks. Fruity. No lacing. Not bitter at all. Really weak for an ipa, nonetheless a double.
