A thick creamy head sits atop the opaque blackness of this traditional dry Irish Stout. Roasted chocolate and coffee notes make this beer a great treat.

Dark with a nice thick, lasting head. Sweet and lightly roasty, some nicotine and peat. A bit oddly tangy. Nice full palate.

Nice cascade effect--is this nitrogenated? Tempered aroma (too cold, like many mainstream brewpubs), but good balance and roastiness. Some vinous, grape notes. Smooth palate (nitro isn?t all bad if nitro this be). Call a spade a spade--this brewpub didn?t impress me at all, except for its ability to drag in big crowds, but this beer was very drinkable and actually pretty flavorful. (on tap at Maple Grove, MN location)

Tap @ brewpub in Maple Grove, MN. Black color with a creamy cascading light brown head. Good robust roasted malts flavors with a smooth dry finish. A nice long aftertaste.

2004 ABR. Did not finish the Autumn Brew Review off on a good note. Smells like milk chocolate. Appearance is lacking. No lace, no head. Looks like diarrhea. Flavor isnít good either. Looked and tasted flat.

Black with a tan head and a ruby glow when held up to the light. Has a weak coffee aroma with a slight hint of chocolate. Smells very similar to Guinness. It starts off with a malty taste then moves to a watery taste and finishes with coffee, again very similar to Guinness. This beer had good lacing and head retention. Basically a Guinnes knock off.

Maple Grove, MN location. Black color with a thin, white, lasting head. Aroma has subtle coffee. Taste is just a bit malty with coffee and chocolate. Mouthfeel was very creamy. Itís like a weak Guinness.

On tap, Cedar Rapids IA location. Poured black with very good head retention. Mouthfeel was creamy. By sight and mouthfeel this seems to be a good beer, but the flavor just wasnít there. There was a hint of coffee and chocolate flavors. The flavor just has no complexity to it. This was by no means terrible, it just has nothing to make me want to enjoy it. This probably could have been called Stout Lite.

On tap at the Lincoln, NE brewpub. Good black color with great head retention compared to their other beers. Roasted malt and smoke aroma. Extremely mild body. Nice smoke flavor emerges from the void. This seems very smooth due to the lack of character. Not dry enough for me. Iíd like to see more hops. This would be a good stout for someone who wants to be seen drinking a stout, without actually having to drink a beer with any taste. Maybe that describes the beautiful people who frequent such a place as this?

Not too bad a stout for a mass-consumer brew pub like this. Dark brown to black in appearance, fair amount of head, moderate lacing. Roasty aroma, smoky flavor, just a hint of coffee and chocolate in the flavor. Mouthfeelís a tad thin for a stout, though. Still, not bad, all things considered.
