COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A thick creamy head sits atop the opaque blackness of this traditional dry Irish Stout. Roasted chocolate and coffee notes make this beer a great treat.

11/28/2008: Granite City Broad Axe Stout is nitro-induced, os the near black beer is comes with an extremely cream and frothy tan-colored head and silky mouthfeel. The beer is dense, but smooth and has a nice roasty coffee aroma and flavor. It isn’t anything terribly unique or complex, but it goes down quite well nonetheless!

Draught (pint) at Granite City Food & Brewery in Maumee, Ohio. Rating #83 for this beer.

HonusWagner was kind enough to think of me on his travels across the county. Picked up from the brewpub in Fargo. A: Pours a nice rich black hue. Very tall tan head that exhibied no real retention or lace. S: Very mild aromas. Hints of toasted malt and coffee. T: Roasted malty goodness. Nice coffee with very mild chocolate. A touch of sweet caramel to go along with a bit of lactic like sweetness. M: Medium in body, ample carbonation, a bit of dryness in the finish. D: Good, nice mild little stout. Michael can’t thank you enough for thinking of me during your travels.

Tap at GC Madison. Not quite opaque black burgundy. Massive beige nitro head. Smooth and luscious Stout..sort of in the Sweet Stout style. Nitro accentuates the watery GC body, but there is a lot of chocolate/oatmeal sweetness. Rather pedestrian and standard, but enjoyable enough. Coffee, roast tones.

Surprisingly decent. Thin, dry and easy to drink. Nice roasted malt profile, just a tiny amount of coffee bitterness.

good DRY stout. If you do not like dry stouts this will not be sweet enough for you. I tried this about 2 years ago and did not like it at all. tried it again recently and was very surprised. Nice brussels, great lacing and cascade after pour. They have definately upgraded to a nitro system. I drink it frequently now at the original GCB in St. Cloud, MN so it may be differnt elsewhere.

Draught at Cedar Rapids. Pours brown-black with almost no head (what head I can stir up is beige). The aroma is rich mocha, some vanilla, wood, and a bit of a boggy note. The flavor is bitter chocolate with forward roastiness. More earthy hop bitterness than I expected. Caramel and pine in the finish.

Dark red brown color with a thick off white head. There is a light nose displaying hints of coffee and oats. The palate comes across as slightly creamy with notes of milk chocolate and coffee. An OK stout.
