2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap in Cleveland (OH)
The second beer almost crossed over into satisfying territory. Of the more regular drafts I would probably go for it because at least it provides something beyond a handful of hops, malts, and half hearted flavors. If you were forced to visit a Granite City location with friends consider this your best option (or go for water instead).
Aroma / Appearance - A semitransparent mahogany core glimmers with ivory head holding down the warm aromas. Roasted malts, iced tea, cheap red anise, and generic gas station coffee fuel a blend of aromas that capture the interest for a brief period before they become dull.
Flavor / Palate - Roasted walnuts, nuts, and iced tea rinse the palate clean like a glass full of water. Burnt cookie dough rounds out a finish that hardly inspires the desire to order a full pint. Of the regulars this one provides the best experience but that’s not saying much for a place that feels more about the image than the product.

Now known as The Bennie (Benedict?). It has a nutty flavor, a lot like a Brown Ale.

Tap. Copper pour with a small ring of head. Faint aroma of cherries, nuts, caramel, and toast. Tastes watery and boring. Very light caramel and cherry. Thin body. Eh.

Surprisingly good for a Granite City brew! Very forward caramel, nutty, toasty flavor that is very enjoyable. Thinnish body but very flavorful and tasty brew indeed. Refreshing. Nice darkish brown color too.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap poured into a 24 oz glass stein. The aroma is a very mild somewhere in between toasty and burnt caramel malt. The hazy red-brown (caramel?) colored beer is topped with a very light white head which retains a medium-thin ring and leaves a fairly clear glass. The taste is overall mellow with a medium sweetness and a medium light bitter. There’s an above average, soft carbonation to the medium malty body with a light / creamy thin texture. A roasted caramel and grain come through at the finish with a touch of nuts and a bit of chocolate. It’s a pretty clean finish with a slight caramel aftertaste.

On tap @ the Granite City Food & Beer in the Indianapolis airport, concourse A. Medium old-penny brown, miniscule head. Bready malts, more nutty than chocolatey, oddly. If I were guessing, I’d peg this as a brown ale.
