COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in full collaboration with Sint Canarus in Belgium, by Piet and Ben, Grant is a big bold Imperial Red Ale, with the piny resinous quality of the dankest American Hop-monsters, coupled with the fruity esters and dynamic body produced by Piet’s infamous Belgian yeast. Named for Ben’s Great-Grandfather, Grant is a strong old soul of a brew - vibrantly fresh while young, wise and contemplative with age. 10.4% ABV. (from http://www.bierkraft.com)

330mL thanks to argo0. Oh joy, imperial red. To quote my friend ryan, "Whoever came up with this style should be shot." The pour is a muddy, dirty amber with a large, tan head. Big retention and webby lace. Nose is huge cheesy hops, which I have decided goes as a 5/10 for aroma. Hard to know what to think of a massive cheesy aroma. Yes, at one time maybe it smelled good but now it is just all pine and cheesecake. Taste is boozy, earthy, mildly tart. Nothing stand out.

11.2 ounce bottle. A big tan head lasts a long time. A cool opaque brown that has lots of bubbles floating up. A nose of sweet fruit, orange sherbert, and yeast. Big fruit and pine are tasted. Malt is sweet but is not caramel and has a big presence. Bitterness is very light but alcohol is definitely tasted. The after taste resembles a barley wine. Each sip begins with an inocuous sweetness and then alcohol heat kicks in. After that the BW after taste. Dangerous stuff! Tasty stuff, too.

ChainGangGuy (3837) - Canton, Georgia, USA - MAR 26, 2012
Appearance: Pours a dark amber-hued body, somewhat clouded, and crowned with a tall, foaming, light beige head.

Smell: Well-toasted malt, trifling caramel, a bit of bland spiciness, tainted fruit, booze, and vegemite.

Taste: Lowly sweetish, lightly toasty malts marked by booze, a sad, savory dead yeastiness, stale spicy hops, and a bit of scantly tart fruit. It’s the same sordid story until the warming finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: Wholly unacceptable. Feel free to go ahead and pass on the Oost-West Rude Bier, folks!

33cl bottle shared by argo0: Pours a clear deep amber with a spotty-lacing white head. Has a sweet toasty dark caramel malty nose with some piny resiny hops. Starts with some sweet toasty caramel and biscuity malts with fresh resiny hop flavor before a drier warming finish. Could hide the alcohol a little better, but still pretty complex.
