2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 vadie (210) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 3, 2013
Noir avec un peu de ruby quand je la tienne à la lumière. Il y a une petite mousse beige et épais. L’arôme de malt et un peu d’houblon. Le goût est le malt, un peu de chocolat avec une finale d’houblon.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gerbeer (857) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 17, 2012
650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with light head. Aromas of roasted malt and light pine. Flavors of coffee, roast malts, light chocolate, and light pine. Nice enough.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 dfearnley (319) - Alberta, CANADA - SEP 16, 2012
650mL bottle to tulip
Roasted malts, coffee, light hops, and straw. The appearance is a deep opaque brown with a thin tan ring of a head. The taste is malty up front that disappears into an lingering astringent coffee like bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slick with soft carbonation and astringent finish. Not very balanced and a bit of a miss for me.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 bigaddie (25) - - SEP 16, 2012
Dark and smooth appearance, pours with a small head that stays. Aroma is a medley of sweet citrusy hops and heavy malt.
Smooth palate with a bitter, toasty hops taste in front and bitter hops at end. Not very well balanced - a little less malt and more hops.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 reebtogi (3262) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 22, 2012
3 - 4oz samples at VCBW 2012 in Vancouver poured almost black in color with a generous light beige head that leaves some decent lacing. Aroma is roasted grains, chocolate and hints of citrus and coffee. Taste is roasted grain and citrus bitterness atop a chocolatey malty background. Medium body and moderate carbonation leave a nice tingle on the palate. A decent brew for the style and quite tasty, but there are better ones to sample.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Matts_Property (831) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 17, 2012
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small off white head. Aroma of chocolate, lightly roasted coffee and some metallic qualities. Flavour is no more exciting, weak, light citrus. Bland.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Powertrip (999) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 31, 2012
Single bottle purchased from Willow Park Liqour Store in Calgary, AB On 07/04/2012. Colour: Extremely dark brown with low creamy white head. Nose: Lots of vegetation from the hops and a touch of egg. Faint caramel. Burnt rice. Taste: Light sweet, medium bitter, medium-light sour. The roasting of the ingredients is apparent and dominant but the character is shallow. Just not much depth.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lagerboy (666) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 29, 2012
Clear dark brown with an amber hue. Foamy beige head fades. Roasty malty aroma. Unsweet roasted dark malt taste, lightly bitter. Softly carbed, medium bodied, moderately hopped. Light bitter finish. Incrediblly average. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DuffMan (5190) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 14, 2012
Bottle, shared with Parksy and Jeff, and tasted alongside Half Pints Black Galaxy and Fish Tale Swordfish. This took third place for being underhopped relative to the other two (Swordfish kicked ass in the hop department), but scored well for nice chocolatey dark malts and a decent flavour overall. Third place in this arena of contenders doesn’t imply that this is an inferior black IPA overall, it was just judged among tall company.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 pintbypint (1975) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 6, 2012
650ml brown bottle. Dark brown in colour with ruby edges, clear. Head is tan and rocky. Hoppy nose with notes of orange and grapefruit, some sweet notes. Taste has some dark choclate/black coffee to start, hints of sweetness in there, like brown sugar, cocoa, overall roasty. Hoppy finish with grapefruit, grass, hint of metal, lengthy bitterness. Medium body, medium carbonation. Comparing it to other beers in the style it’s a bit above average, comparing it to other standard line up beers from Granville this is stellar. They should scrap everything and keep these special releases around.
