3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 zeek (134) - British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 15, 2011
December 2011 vintage. Pours a lively head that fizzles out within a minute. While black, I detect a slight amber tinge when held up to light. Chocolate is slightly more prominent than the roasted malt but not excessively bitter. Sits nicely in the mouth. Very enjoyable.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ardiesr (45) - British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 10, 2011
Dark chocolate aroma with some sweetness underneath. Appearance is black with some ruby highlights. Builds a small tan head which lasts well. Flavour has dark caramel sweetness leading into dark chocolate flavours with some sweetness, but finish is slightly dry. Good balance. Hard to detect any dark roasted malts. Beer is warming as this years edition is 8.4%, but alcohol is hidden well. A bit more dark roast malt would enhance the alcohol presence and chocolate flavour.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 reebtogi (2191) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - SEP 1, 2011
650mL bottle poured almost black with a nice beige head settling slowly to a fine lace. Aromas of roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is chocolate and malty sweetness followed up by a long dry bitter hoppiness. This is a pretty good stout.
2.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Boutip (3467) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 28, 2011
Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown/black color stout with a nice brown color head with medium retention and some light lacing. Aroma of deep chocolate with light syrup taste which doesn’t fit really well with the rest. Taste is also very much dominated by loads of chocolate with a light tart finish which doesn’t really fit with the rest of the flavor. Body is a bit thin for the style with good carbonation. Nice chocolate notes but unfortunately the tart notes don’.t really mesh well with the rest.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Beershine (4746) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - FEB 20, 2010
Draft @ taphouse. Pours opaque black with tan head. Fudgy aroma. Soft palate is creamy and slightly oily. Nice cocoa flavors. Not very roasty but has enough to let the finish be nice and dry with lingering chocolate flavors on the tongue. Becomes syrupy after half a glass but otherwise ok.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Powertrip (844) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 19, 2010
A true art of balance has been performed here. This one could have been a syrupy sugary mess but instead it is full harmony. Its nose matches its taste to a tee. Waves of fresh earthy cocao and South American coffee beans dancing together like a figure skating pair. Late mocha presence dominates with rich malt hanging on to its coat-tails. A wonderful dose of milk chocolate please but doesn’t overachieve. Start to finish, fabulous stuff.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 CapFlu (3798) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 18, 2010
(650ml bottle) Purchased at the BCLS on Fort Street in Victoria for a mere $5.50. Pours a thin, beige coloured head atop a ruby mahogany body. Nose is pleasantly milk chocolate - not the usual cocoa powder or bitter chocolate. The flavour is rather good - much better than the KB or Phillips. It has a nutty, nutella smooth hazelnut background reminiscent of a Purdy’s Hedgehog. The chocolate flavour is creamy and sweet. Very nicely done.
