The English know a thing or two about pale ale. West Coasters know a thing or two about having a good time. Naturally, we kept these facts in mind when we perfected the recipe for English Bay Pale Ale. Tradition is served in the smooth, mild flavour and caramel malt aroma, and that distinctive West Coast character comes through thanks to natural carbonation and careful maturing. The result? A real pale ale with will rise to any occasion.

A hint of apple and pear on a distinctive caramel base. Fairly smooth and tasty but the hops dynamic is absent. Finishes crisp and dry with a little treacle sweetness. Pleasant but devoid of all the "west coast character" promised on the label.

bottle - thanks to skykob for bringing this back from vancouver. pale amber to golden, clear with aminimal head; mushy aroma of soggy cereal, hints of hay and red berry; low bitterness, minimal hop character all around; a bit of a snoozefest

Clear pale to medium amber with short, short-lived head, no lacing. Aroma: caramel, bready yeast, faint floral/grassy. Taste: moderate sweet, mild bitter. Medium to watery body, soft carbonation. Meh. Pretty boring.

355 ml can from a Granville Island sampler twelve-pack from Liquor Depot, served in a small glass mug. Pours a clear, orangey amber with very light carbonation and an off-white, pearly head that leaves lace pearls behind. Aroma is a balance of slightly sweet, toasty malts and a peculiar earthy hop character; the flavor mirrors this. There’s some caramel and molasses as well. Slightly thick body with a brief bitterness. Nothing terrible, but not my style of ale.

Copper colour, tan head. Smooth & earthy taste with lightly bitter finish. Ordered a pint at Shannon's in Winnipeg. Served with appropriate head, perfectly cold and from clean taps. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, biscuit and floral. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long malty, caramel and floral finish. Body is medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

Can. A clear, amber colored beer topped by a small, dense, off-white head. The aroma is on the malty side, leaving little room for the hops. Caramel, some bread and a little fruityness. The flavor has bread, caramel, some fruity notes and a very vague bitterness, not managing to deal with the malty sweetness. Medium body, soft carbonation. Long, bready finish with some metallic notes. Not a beer I’d repeat, it’s not horrific in any way, just plain boring and uninteresting. And of course, the metallic touch in the finish doesn’t help. 150615
