2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 leitrim65 (402) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 21, 2004
This is the third beer I've tasted from this brewery. Nothing has been outstandin. But, this is the only one I'd say I'll pass on having another. Amber in color and quite a mild aroma of malt. Flavors are malt and some hops with no finish. Overall the flavors just didn't blend well for me. As one person mentioned earlier "stale hops" and that may well be a good explanation for what I've just tasted.
2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 SG (465) - Valley Center, California, USA - AUG 24, 2003
Amber colored with a fairly low carbonation level. Almost smells like a very subtle herbal tea to me. It sort of tastes like iced tea too!! I'm telling you this is tea with alcohol and a little touch of malt. Super smooth. Probably the weakest, most geared toward a mass market pale ale I've ever had as far as flavor and palate go. I definitely don't despise it though, it's just blah.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 jonas (5068) - Garching b. München, GERMANY - JUN 18, 2003
Aroma nonexistent.
Golden Brown, low creamy head.
Malt and corn mouth rounded of by stale hops. Ok mouthfeel.
Quite dissappointing after a few day in hoppy SF.
2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 MicroRob (42) - Kelowna, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 12, 2003
A good standby beer of the bar doesn't serve good micro brews. A little bit of creamy taste but doesn't linger at all.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 jpfrog (130) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - MAR 4, 2003
Golden in color with a head that disapears in a blink of the eye, with absolutely no lace left on the glass. Some hop aroma, but nothing else really stands out. Lightly malted flavor that has hardly any hops at all. The finish is quick and abrubt, and doesn't stay hardly at all. Not really all that impressive of a beer and doesn't really taste like a pale ale.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 BeerPrince (1701) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 3, 2003
This beer is alright but nothing special. Its best componenet is the finish as it is quite nice and easy. Not much flavour though. Not enough hops perhaps.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 dhurtubise (568) - Hamilton, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 7, 2003
There is not much to this beer. It is a little more hopped than the big boys and more malty but uses a very neutral yeast that dries the beer up a little much. It has a slight caramel touch in the background but otherwise it's a beer to buy by the pitcher.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 TipsyMcStager (1114) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 24, 2003
Has a pleasant aroma that is not very long-lasting. Pours a copper brown with a thin head, low carbonation. Starts with a slight maltiness, finish is bland, hops weak. An average beer.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 presario (4406) - Stampede City, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 24, 2003
An OK beer for downing a few. Smooth creamy mouth feel, thins out as the beer is consumed. Hops aroma is stronger than the hops flavour. Golden copper colour with thin head. Light caramel taste. Finish and aftertaste are below average. Overall I find Granville leans to much towards the mainstream.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 49degrees (49) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 2, 2003
A mid-range English styled Pale Ale from one of the region’s top selling craft brewer. Widely available in traditional 341ml (12oz) bottles and on draught. The English Bay Pale Ale is mild tasting, features a light golden color, and gives off a moderate amount of aroma after pouring. Head is pretty consistent as is the lacing of the glass afterward.
Extremely easy on the palette with both a smooth and mellow flavor with hints of carmel behind a draping of malt and limited hopiness.
While it lacks the real character that I’m searching for when tackling a Pale Ale, it works particularly well as a general ale for parties with friends and family.
